It's hank-dyed (hand dyeing with bottle) using natural indigo.
I'm not sure which species the indigo comes from, only that it's a Japanese native.
I believe the oxidative process has been altered to achieve that green hue - gotta ask someone at Nihon Menpu or Gun for the details.
