I have a question, other than apples I am admittedly bad about getting enough fruit & vegetables in my diet. Sometimes I am good and eat healthy salads for lunch.

So, even though it isn't the best form, is it still okay to get those servings from drinking Superfood & V8?

V8 is very high in sodium, isn't it? I would think the Odwallas are OK for you though. As supplementation ONLY of course, don't rely on them as your primary source of fruit/veggies. Because, from what I understand, the you are missing the fiber that you would normally get from the peels of unprocessed fruits & veggies.

It will never replace fresh fruit and veggies, no. If you're going to put that much money into prepared stuff, why not buy some packaged salads and have them as a starter before dinner every day? It's literally as easy as a handful of spring mix and a few cherry tomatoes and a bit of dressing, and finishing a meal with say, an orange.

^^Totally agree. And homemade smoothies are really easy to make and taste great.

Josh loves smoothies...although I'm not sure I can call his 'smoothies' since they're not really smooth.

Here are his ingredients
Plain yogurt
asst fruit (with skin on)
milk
sugar

I'm not complaining.

I wonder if I got the low sodium version and added tobasco, how that would taste?

Guess I need to check the sodium on Tobasco...

low sodium version V8 is really GROSS
maybe you could buy the low sodium kind and add a bit of sea salt to spruce it up?
i don't know, but i would personally never drink that stuff without seasoning

Even a smoothie where you throw whole fruit in (with skin, etc) loses the fiber. It gets broken down. It's better to eat them unblended, but blending is better than nothing!

But on topic, I agree with pretty much everyone, supplementing those drinks is ok, but it's still best to eat the real stuff. FYI V8 has toooons of sodium, I wouldn't recommend it if you have high blood pressure or a history of high blood pressure (salt isn't necessarily bad for someone who doesn't have high blood pressure, to a point)

I am complaining! Woman, don't put sugar into his smoothies. If you have to sweeten it (lessen the sugar with every time) at least use a teaspoon of raw honey instead. But as you put whole ripe fruit in it, I can't see why there needs to be sugar in it.

I HAVE to supplement my diet with high protein drinks, if I want to keep weight on. I drink the Odwalla Super Protein smoothie. It gets the job done. I do make sure to get plenty of fiber from raw whole fruits, vegetables, and grains, though.

I think juices are excellent supplements, but never replacements. Of course, you can't get all the vitamin A from one carrot that you could from a dozen juiced carrots, so additive free juices definitely have their place.

If you don't want to juice your vegetables and fruits, one day, I would recommend skipping the V8 and opting for Knudsen's 100% fruit (no sugar) and vegetable blends, or the Odwalla drinks, just for a quick fix on the go.

My mother is a pretty avid juicer, though, and nothing really beats the taste of freshly made carrot juice and fruit smoothies.

Cause he's a kid and won't drink it if it's not a little sweet. I'd rather him have a little sugar in it than not have it at all.

Did anyone catch the episode of Oprah a few days ago, when Dr. Oz was on? He shared a recipe for a drink that sounded interesting....I think he referred to it as the "green drink". Here is the recipe I found:

4 stalks celery
1 cucumber
1 cup spinach
1 apple
1 lemon
1 lime
1/2 inch piece ginger

You blend it all together, they didn't mention if you strain it or not. Sounds interesting though....I want to try it!
