Getting married in July... we're really not sure where we want to go for our honeymoon. We only have about a week and aren't sure we want to "rush through" Hawaii. We're considering the Caribbean, Europe, and cruises...So- what resorts have you been to that you'd recommend? We've been to the travel agent who gave us 103837464 books to look at. They all start looking the same after a while. :headspin

Maybe a matter of preference, but I'd avoid the all inclusive resorts. You don't really get a feel at all for where you are, ya know?

Then again -- you can lounge around and be spoon fed and pampered (and that's not necessarily a bad thing, lol)

I really like cruises -- but its kind of the same thing, you have such a limited time to really take in any real culture at the ports...

Have you considered looking for a destination off the beaten path?

We don't mind going off the beaten path- we are really active and I'm afraid that we'll (me!) be bored. I'd love to have several excursions or water sports to do if we go to a beach. :)

I agree about taking in the culture. I'd love to spend sometime around the locals and their favorite things to do.

We've both cruised the Caribbean before and it will be hard for us to time a cruise with our days off... so it might actually be out as an option.

Marmaris Turkey.

You know my hubs is in the Navy and he rants and raves about this place.
Great shopping, nice beaches, affordable, and awesome night life scene (he got the look on that one!!!)

Other than that, I just wanted to say I'm happy you are planning a honeymoon! We didn't go on one and here we are 8 yrs later and still no honeymoom. Anyway, whatever you do, it'll be an awesome time! :)

I'm no help, but congratulations! We're getting married in June (I *hope*...we still haven't booked a reception place or ceremony site!) and will probably do a camping/bed&breakfast combo tour that involves the california coast & a few beautiful national parks. We wanted to do Hawaii, but it's not in the cards for this year.

Tahiti anyone?

Don't spend anytime on the main island of Tahiti, nothing much to see. Can't go wrong with any of the other islands. Moorea, Bora Bora, and Huahini is where we stayed on our honeymoon many moons ago....

I still owe my wife a trip back to renew our vows at some point. Maybe our 20th?:magwink

do you HAVE to go the week after you get married? We went to Hawaii, (Poipu, Kauai) It's a nice sleepy island, but I was exhausted and could hardly enjoy it.

I just don't think it is a bad thing to wait a little while and really get a trip you enjoy.

Other than that, what are your top 5 and what are his. Are any of them the same? ARe they financially feasible? What do you want to do on the honeymoon, focus on each other or tour as much of the area as possible? Hopefully those questions can help you break it down.

I love Kauai! If you DO decide to go to Hawaii, stick with one island. One week is not enough time to "island hop" IMO. Hawaii might not be the best choice if you only have a week, though....since you are on the east coast, you're going to spend an entire day on the plane each way.

My friends just went to Antigua for their honeymoon, and loved it! The pics they brought back were GORGEOUS!

definitely agree with the above. My brother just went to Sandals Grand Bahamian and loved it. I have some other friends who are love scuba diving and they went to Punta Cana in the Dom. Republic and said that was fabulous also.

I don't know if you have yeart heart set on someplace warm but I recently met a couple who went on their Honeymood to Banff Alberta in Canada (the Rockies). They went in the middle of winter too!

But in the middle of July Banff is amazing and beautiful and warm. You can stay at the Banff Springs hotel which is right at the foot of a mountain overlooking a clear blue lake. Lake Louise is also a great option. You could stay at Chateau Lake Louise which also overlooks the mountains and a beautiful lake.

There is a ton of stuff to do like horseback riding, hiking and just being together in a beautiful place. I doubt that you would get bored either. You could fly into Calgary and rent a car and then drive out to Banff or Lake louise (or even do both!).

It isn't as conventional as the Carribean or Hawaii but it really is an amazing place.

My finace is pretty set on the Sandals Grand Bahamian resort. Last night we ruled out Hawaii because of the time loss while traveling-etc. What kinds of things were there to do at the Sandals resort? Enough to keep the active, active? Thanks! :)

You may want to consider costa rica. It is a beautiful place and you can get a direct flight from Dallas. We found it really resonably priced, $100 a night for excellent lodging. We stayed at the hotel Mariposa in Manuel Antonio. Our room had beautiful tile work, an amazing view of the ocean and a balcony with a hammock and seating area. Our room smelled really fresh after housekeeping came everyday. Also, the local people are really nice and friendly, you can experience their culture while feeling welcomed into it. I would go back there before anywhere else I have been. I have been to a lot of tropical places, Caymens, jamaica, haiwaii, mexico, honduras; and costa rica blew them all away!

Oh I really wish I could go tomorrow!

Do you like wine? We went to Napa Valley and had a BLAST!! It's the only place I have gone (and I have traveled a lot) that I immediately wanted to go back as soon as possible!!!! Of course, it could have been the company...:magwink

We just got married and honeymooned at the The Cove at Atlantis on Paradise Island at the beginning of Oct. I chose Atlantis because there is soooo much to do and didn't want to be bored either. We didn't have to leave the resort! We went from Sun-Fri and wish we had more time.

The park has waterslides, private beaches, huge casino and small beach casino (at The Cove),a lazy river, rock climbing wall and over 15 restaurants. We swam w/dophins, did something called Sub-Bahama at Stuarts Cove (a mix of scuba and snorkeling), rented jet skis, got massages..You can also take a 5min cab ride into town to shop at the market and eat local Bahamian food.We were soo busy, we didn't get a chance to go into town. It was fantastic. We are going again for our 1yr. Already booked it!

Atlantis has 4 different hotels so you can definitely find one in your price point... the only con was it was pretty pricey but we figured it was our honeymoon and enjoyed ourselves! I guarantee you'll love it!!:love

Sorry for the long message...:magwink
