If I taped them on there they wouldnt let me mail them, and then when I use the plastic envelopes that still isn't good enough.
this is what i do too cause the PO gave me such a hard time for using tape so now i just use their international sticky sleeves to cover the flap

that is exactly what the biatch PO gal pointed to when i had tape on mine and she refused to let me ship it that's when i started using the international sticky sleeves

now i am just going tape it like crazy and hand the DMM printout to her and see what she does with that i can hardly wait

so far my record is 2 pairs of size 28 dojos, but one pair was shortish inseam and the other pair was LKC so that's probably not terribly impressive...I need to see these 30s in one envelope!!!

How are you getting two pairs into the flat rate envelope? Are you putting one pair of jeans in one Tyvek each, or both pairs into the Tyvek, before it goes into the FRE? I've been fooling around with two pairs of 25s for the last hour. Grrrr.......

I put one pair per Tyvek when I shipped two size 24s in one flat rate envelope. It allowed me to maneuver them around a little bit to get them to fit. It took me a while to get them in there, so two size 30s? I probably would have given up and used a regular Tyvek.

How much more expensive is the tyvek, anyway? The last pair I shipped in tyvek (before I knew about this site!) was actually cheaper than the flat rate envelope... but that was only a few states away.

I think with the Tyvek it gets weighed and sometimes that with where its going makes it more expensive than flat rate. Flat rate through Paypal is even cheaper and you get free DC so its $4.80 for domestic

the post office is sometimes so sketchy. a friend sent me something in an envelope once and when i got it...it was shredded and they replaced the bracelet she made for me with a chain! like a bike chain! and they had the nerve to put it one of those envelopes that said "we're sorry, it got damaged in transit". yeah, it was damaged alright!

huh? It can't be cheaper in a priority tvek. The Priority flat rate envelope is the cost of 1lb and in a Tvek it will round up to the nearest pound. So it could be the same cost (if it were a 1lb or less), but it won't ever cost less then a flat rate.

Tyvek starts at 4.80 and goes up by package weight and zone.
Tyvek is NEVER flat rate and if you put flat rate label on a tyvek you are 'stealing'.

Why injuring another human is against current law is seriously beyond me.

Can one of you please define what "normal" means? When the DMM says, "...the container flaps must be able to close within the normal folds" - how is "normal" defined in that sentence? If you could back what you're saying with actual proof, I'd really appreciate it - as I don't want it to be my word against theirs, but rather online rules against personal rules that they're trying to enforce.

Does "normal" mean that the top flap should fold over and close without any -added- pressure? Because it does take a bit of pushing/pulling on my end to get it (top half of the envelope) to sit on top of the bottom half - as I'm assuming is the case with many of you? If not, what then? What the hell does "normal" mean?

"Up to 70 lbs" my ass. How the hell are you suppose to fit 70 lbs into an envelope and not have the thing bulk up and need a bit more pressure to close?

I did this for the first time today and the lady at the p.o. actually told me I did a "good job getting it in there"! I guess my post office is more liberal than others!

This. If you're shipping within the same state, the price could be very close, but it probably wouldn't even be the same as a flat rate...I just shipped two pairs within Michigan and it was 5.08 vs. 4.80 for a FR (and since they were right on the border of what I can fit in a FR, I just went ahead and used the tyvek)

btw, does anyone know how much grief they might give you if you wanted to send 2 pairs in an Express FR? I heard somewhere that they're pickier about the envelopes being "excessively bulky" than they are with domestic shipments. I just sent out two pairs in such a FR but don't think they've had time to get to the buyer yet.

It really depends on your PO's postal workers. The PO I go to NEVER give me any hassles, but they know me very since I go there quite often. During Christmas, I bring them a couple dozen donuts as "Thanks" for their help through out the year.

I did go to a different PO once and the worker hassled me about my envelope being buly and stated that flat rate meant the envelope had to be "flat"

I went back to my car, grabbed a copy of the DMM, asked to speak the Postmaster in charge or a Supervisor, and showed her the appropriate sections highlighted with yellow highlight ink. She told that same postal worker to go ahead and send it.

Also one thing I suggest when taping your FRE's is to pretape the edges before you stuff the jeans in. I find the taping looks much more cleaner and almost inconspicuous. Also if you print your labels, use the self adhesive labels you can buy from your local office supply store or from the may sellers on eBay and use those to tape over the flaps.

Another as mentioned above is to use the clear custom envelopes as tape esp. for international shipments. That custom envelope is REALLY STICKY and quite strong.
