Paypal pending funds?

Whats with this new thing on paypal where they hold the funds for 21 days or until item is received by buyer? I just sold a guitar for $150 and its "pending". So I can't access the money if I wanted to buy something from ebay? That's the dumbest thing I've heard of...

You will get the money as soon as the buyer leave positive feedback or within 3 days of you showing proof of delivery. (or after 21 days). Whichever comes first.

Make sure you ship the guitar out asap.

When did they start pending funds? I don't remember waiting for the money before.

Recently. And it's just for certain categories of items that they do it.

Edit to add: It's annoying for honest sellers but it is sure nice when you end up with fakes. There is no chance for the Seller to pull the funds before a claim is filed that way.

You have a low FB count. You have 5 FBs as a seller. The item was over $100. You haven't sold anything since June. I'm sure all of these were taken into consideration, although they would never give you a straight answer on that. They are covering their butts basically until they know you have fulfilled.

Going to wash the stalker feeling off me now...but you asked!

i think it's for item over $100.. one of my payments (for jeans) got put on hold and while i don't sell a lot, i do have more than 5 seller feedback and have sold a few items here and there at least once a month for the past 3 or so months.

It is for any payment deemed by paypal as high risk, due to seller factors. It is certainly not all payments over $100.

Hah, little curious myself.

I guess that makes sense after all they do try to avoid scams. Just wish I knew about that earlier. Not to mention i asked $35 for shipping and post office says its gonna be about $45

You have listed in the Mall before. The Mall requires you to put in your ebay id.

This just happened to me as well.

I'm SO irritated because I had NO clue that they were doing this.

I understand the need for it, but I have INCREDIBLE feedback and ALL of it pretty much is for selling AUTHENTIC items and for quick deliveries!

I am most irritated because I planned to use the money for a pair of Wallabees !!!!! GRRR!!!!

Paypal = rip off

Just go to paypal sucks or any number of sites that have paypal horror stories. Now ebay will not allow a seller to give neg. feed back and a buyer can extort anything he wants from you. Paypal will now hold your funds if you do not have 100 positive feed backs. I sold on craigslist a german cross the buyers wanted to get his money back so he contacted paypoop. paypoop sent me a letter saying that they were giving him a refund and my account was in the NEG and I was to put money to cover the charger. Thay also sent the buyer a letter saying to destroy the cross as a hate item. I did not cover the charge and let my account go. Remember paypal is a holding company and the same laws they get around by not being a bank stops them from hitting your credit rating. So now I set up accounts and will not ship a thing until the funds are released and they are removed from my account to my bank account then drained to a second account as paypal has been known to draw money illegaly out of your bank account. I joined a class action law suit filed by my home state against paypal for illegal practices. We won and my end was not a lot but it was a victory over these idiots. Be carful people I have told this story to many people and many have said what I am sure you will say, "I have used paypal and never had any trouble" Then their account gets frozen for no reason, or one of the other tricks paycrap uses. When you get hit remember what I said.

I just sold a pair of 7FAM jeans for $35 today and Paypal is holding my funds. I understand they're trying to protect buyers, but it's weird because this was the FIRST time they've done that, and I've been selling for a while... in the last month I've had at least 10 sales, and they never withheld the funds. I have 100% positive feedback, 35 as a seller and 56 as a buyer, but I only have 16 DETAILED seller feedback ratings, so maybe that's it? But if so, why didn't they hold the funds before? I also have an open claim as a buyer on some jeans I didn't receive, so maybe that could be it too? So strange. I wish they would at least let me use the funds to print the damn shipping labels!

Oh just STFU AND GTFO.... You used PayPal to sell an item that is clearly against their user agreement. You probably shipped with out tracking too. This is COMPLETELY YOUR FAULT! You should sue yourself for being to illiterate or lazy to read the PayPal user agreement.

I do not disagree PayPal sucks. However in this case you are at fault and this could have been avoided by reading the user agreement. It is your responsibility as a seller to be aware of the policies the payment system you are using has in place. In fact I find many people who are complaining the loudest about how badly paypal sucks end up being people who could have avoided these issues by reading and following the user agreement

Also its not like this 21 day hold is unheard of. Amazon and half.com pays out every 2 weeks. So do many other sites. Take a look at other CC processors, a lot of them do not have an instant payment system like paypal - again it requires a waiting period to access your money.

Hi guys/gals

I've been reading so many paypal horror stories that i'm somewhat afraid to use paypal..

Anyways I have a question if someone could let me know if this is normal practice but I just sold my MJMB on craiglist and the seller sent me payment through paypal but for some reason this did not show up in the transaction history nor is it even pending. I did get an instant payment notification from paypal but I thought that normally the transaction would at least show up in my history as pending until a shipping confirmation has been received. I get that part even though it doesn't give me the option of putting in the tracking number and it asked me to email them at consultant_deskhelp (which is unusual) but it's even more weird that the transaction of this payment isn't even showing up.

Has this happened to anyone?

Is that normal? TIA!

Was the email from "paypal" a phising or scam email?

Since I can't edit:

Any monies received should show up in your paypal account, pending or not and the transaction will be listed on your main page.

It looks like the legit paypal - but then today I called Paypal just to inquire about what's going on and they said that there's been quite a bit of fraudulent activity. I'm going to post what the email from paypal said that I got on behalf of this so-called payment. They said that they can't see any transaction either and if it was made, even if it was on hold it would be there and say pending.

From email I got from the possibly fake paypal:

This PayPal® payment has been deducted from the buyer's account and has been "APPROVED"but will not be credited to your account until the shipment tracking number is sent to us for shipment verification so as to secure both the buyer and the seller. Below are the necessary information requested before your account will be credited. Send tracking number to us or email us through this [email protected] and our customer service care will attend to you. As soon as you send us the shipment's tracking number to us for security purposes and the safety of the buyer and the seller, the money will be credited to your account.
**PLEASE NOTE**
Once shipment has been verified and the tracking number sent to us,
You will receive a "CONFIRMATION EMAIL " from PayPal ® informing you that the Money has been credited.
Thank you for using PayPal!
The PayPal Team

*************************

I have never seen this email before: "[email protected]" - as paypal's contact. It just seems fishy.
