Nordstrom return policy??

I've shopped at Nordstrom for a while now and have never, ever had any issues with returns. No receipt, no problem.

Today, I went down to exchange (not return) a pair of SFAM jeans and was turned away. They were purchased as a present and I was supposed to provide the order number, credit card number, address it was sent to and/or the purchaser's name...they found the name but no records of the jeans being purchased and how the hell and I supposed to know the CC#????? The only address that would make sense for delivery is a home address which didn't match up with the person she was on the phone with. She was very unhelpful and suggested I return to the store with more information as I would receive the sale price of $70 less, even though the item is NOT on sale online and I wasn't even looking to return it! Further, she said she would need to call a manager down if I wanted to do an exchange and was reluctant to call. She also said a return would be difficult because other stores offer this product.

I'm returning to the store with the receipt but I didn't realize Nordy's was so uptight on returns but then again, I've never returned jeans before. I'm just really suprised at the response from the sale associate and that Nordy's would refuse an exchange/return because another store offered it. They take used 5 year old crap for heaven's sake!!

Does any of this sound familiar or foreign??

that's weird because most places, even without a receipt, will let you exchange stuff as long as they carry it. Or they will give you store credit if you return it - either way, they eventually get the money, so they are not really losing anything. Nordies is usually very lenient...I am surprised. Do you have a store near you to go to?

My nordies will NOT accept any ol' thing back for returns. In the past, yes, but the company as a whole has revamped its computer database system so now it's easier for associates to check on past purchase histories. So, if you do NOT have an orig receipt; the item's tag w/the special Nord tracking sticker; or the cc that it was purchased with, associates HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO AND WILL turn you away. This happened w/a SMALL item of mine...makeup...it smeared more than I thought it would under hot, humid conditions... I had to go home to find "proof" that I purchased it at Nord. If I had some sort of stake in Nord, I wouldn't want my profit margins to shrink ridiculously because ppl are returning items (perhaps bought at Macys, Sephora, or elsewhere) or committing other shady returns. I was a bit angry in the beginning of this since I was more accustomed to Nord's lenient rtn policy, but I had to think of it coming from a business model...if I was a business owner, and I was known for having a lax rtn policy, and I noticed ppl were taking advantage of it, I'd put a squash on it, too.

I don't understand why they will not accept new merchindise for a return. If they carry the merchindise, they can put it out on the floor, and they can issue the customer store credit that cannot be cashed out.

P+L end of story.

ETA: Anyone know their shrink %? This would contribute Nordie's tightening the belt with the return policies.

I can understand tightening their return policy. As a business viewpoint, I would too. But it doesn't make sense to me to refuse an exchange or not issue store credit for a new item while the product is on their floor.

BTW, today marks the start of their women and kids half yearly sale.

^store credit is still a part of their Shrink %. I don't agree with what they are doing AT ALL...but I understand it. I would suggest going to another Nordie's...escalating it to a manager and calling up Nordie's customer service too.

Long ago I actually worked in a Nordie's (specifically in the high end women's department) and people used to bring in the most DISGUSTING items for return. I was Forced to accept them against my will because of their "Lenient" return policy. Shit had been WORN and STUNK- Seriously. This happened all the time and Is actually a pet peeve of mine
Have to say I am 100% FOR a change in the return policy as it stood at the time I worked there (10 years ago )

Ewww Some lingerie should *not* be returnable! Please tell me that wasn't put back on the floor.

Wouldn't blame them for being so uptight if you think about it..they probably lost alot from people who keep returning knockoff stuff over the years...

return anything

Nordstrom (who was founded by my great uncle) has a no hassle return policy. If any associate starts to give you a problem ask to speak to manager. In fact skip the associate and automatically ask for a manager. If still no luck go up to customer service. If they are unwilling to give you a return start by getting loud. I mean throw a fit if you need to, Nordstrom nor any other company wants customers to witness someone whom is not happy. Believe me it works (regardless if you are related to the founder or not) Just don't do anything stupid to get arrested. Just be obnoxious and you will be able to make your return. Remember the customer is ALWAYS right!

Based on some of the shit i've seen on the racks at nordstrom, they really ought to some day realize that sometimes the customer simply is NOT right. A policy that says ok you take back this fake that someone put a nordies tag on is not a good one
