Help with wardrobe update

So I'm looking to change up my look a bit for the fall and I'm torn between button up shirts in various stripes and colors and solid l/s and s/s shirts (for those who are addicted to CSI: NY like me, think Carmine Giovinazzo). On the one hand the solids would be more versatile, but the button ups would be classier (and more expensive).

Or I could always go for an eclectic mix of the 2....

TIA

Short sleeve button up shirts always remind me of old men and the captain of the love boat. (when he wasnt wearing captain's outfit of course)
Go with the long sleeves.

General dress shirt guideline: Always long sleeve, stick to only white and blue, varitaion can be achieved through different permutations of strips, colors, hues etc. stay away from things extremely dark.

If the above is too formal, then it calls for your 2nd choice of the "Carmine Giovinazzo" look.

Never blur the line dividing the two...

Thats why when I go short sleeves, I usually go Ben Sherman or Scotch & Soda. They're more fitted and just look more modern. Although I like Gap stuff, their SS shirts look like what you're talking about.

Might as well go ahead and buy some 7diamonds and cut to the club scene look, ben sherman is one step away.

Go with simple and classic oxfords with $10 of tailoring so they fit properly and can be worn casually or with a simple suit.

Very little people can pull off the S/S button up/sport shirt IMO.

Get L/S and roll up the sleeves.

Yeah, show up with that to a yatch party in St. Simons and see how quick they escort you back to the paper mill dump that is Brunswick. Oh wait, I think you meant that socks and boat shoes where acceptable in the proper parts of the south!

Ooops.
