had an iphone since day one. had a similar problem, but mysteriously fixed itself (shrugs) had it replaced. Have you tried plugging it back to itunes and "Restore"-ing it?

The iphone is not even coming up as a device under itunes and its now telling me i have to repair itunes or re-install it on my computer. Something bad happened and I'm not quite sure what it was.

That happened to mine once and I pressed the button at the top that locks your phone and the main round one that takes you back to the main screen at the same time, and then waited for the apple icon to reappear. That fixed it, but I was annoyed that it happened in the first place.

I'm so sorry, I hope it gets fixed.

after mines shut down on me i had to go to the apple store and they did this to my phone, they told me it happened because i had an application running too long...? but i press the power button and the round button for 15 secs and the phone restarts. hope it works out for you!

This is how to reset/restart your phone. Sometimes you have to hold both for a long time - at least longer than you'd think.
If this method fails, bring it into an Apple store. You can make an appointment with genius bar online beforehand so you dont have to wait long at the store!

Try this Charla...
Plug your iPhone into your pc/mac with iTunes running, press and hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons for 10s or until the screen goes black, release the Sleep/Wake button while continue to hold the Home button until iTunes pops up a message saying it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode....then restore it...

same thing happened to my brother's 3GS and we never could get it off that screen. apple took it back and upgraded him to the 32gb for free. they also sent me a defective macbook pro last week, and now they're replacing it and overnighting me a ton of free stuff. i love apple

iPhones (and IMO, Pres) are leaps and bounds ahead of RIM trash, but i don't think i'd call them more stable

I tried this like 10 times and it didnt work so I guess I am going to At&t now to tell them to give me a new phone. I called apple and they said that the phone is bricked(whatever that means) and basically f*cked and to return it to At&t. I doubt At&t will upgrade me either.

Uncommon but not rare iPhone/iPod problem. Means that the iPhone/iPod has been rendered so useless it could only be used as a brick. And even then, you probably couldn't live in an iPhone house or use an iPhone to throw a hateful message through a window. Who knows.

We dont have an apple store here. We have a place called the Orchard which is apple affiliated and regulated. Would that work? My friend owns the place.
