So I'm a little conflicted...

A few month back I was on a discussion panel for Bloomberg TV, if any of you have been to their studios in midtown they have the whole works, green rooms, make-up artists and everything.

Long story short, the makeup artist, did a fabulous job of making look even better than usual.

So we were chatting (since I was initially uneasy at the idea of make-up) and when I went home I thought, you know chicks might be on to something with this makeup crap.

Then not too long after that, I was at Saks one day and the had Clinique for MEN concealer which was effectively what the makeup artist used on me that day, and I bought some. Since then every time I have had a long night, or slight discoloration from improper dieting, sleep whatever and I needed to look good for a presentation or something, I used this concealer thing.

So today, I finished the last of the concealer and went to saks to get some more, the makeup chick today me that they don't carry clinique anymore, and I should just use a different brand.

I objected on the grounds that the other brands seemed to clearly be for women, whereas the clinique when said "for men".

She assured me it was the exact same thing with different packaging, and it seems everyone else in the department backed her up.

So now I'm kind of torn, I feel duped almost, like I did something homo but being deceived into it, yet the concealer shit is effective.

I guess oh wise AF board,

is concealer homo on a man?

Me personally?
I think so, but I have heard a lot of guys are using it, and in reality, I am not sure why its bad..

I think traditionally its not too masculine, and you may not want to get caught doing it...
its sort of like makeup and

Personally I do not like the idea of a man with makeup..
I may say..

If you like it and it worked for your needs, then why care what anyone else thinks?

if you liked it and didn't think it was "homo" when you were using the bottle with "MEN" labeled on it, then why should you feel homo now? you seriously thought it wasn't considered makeup since it said "for men" on it?

It only "works" in the sense that it greater enhances my image (we all have the tara reid 4AM ready for rehab look once in a while), but if it takes away from my masculinity, then I'm not sure the tradeoff is worth while.

Haha...but to be fair there is some truth to what you said for every guest on CNBC and BTV, most are either 1.) young guns trying to make a name for themselves 2.) old guys who still want to feel important.

Most people who actually had a great definitive investment thesis with conviction would be out doing it.

concealor definitely isn't homo on a man! my boyfriend and his roommate use it to cover up their pimples before parties and stuff. haha i found it one day in their bathroom and asked who's it was, they both tried to cover saying that it was mine it works though! and it makes their faces look better, plus you can't even tell that they're wearing makeup. you should just go ahead and buy what the salespeople are telling you to buy, i'd believe that its the exact same thing as the clinique "for men"

That bolded statement sounds more "homo" to me than you wearing a little bit of concealer.

I am pretty sure that every male that appears on TV as well as female are wearing makeup.

However if I encountered a male IRL wearing it, and was aware of it, I would most likely have an opinion of him that he was not incredibly masculine.

I would have an assumption about his insecurities as well.

It would not be favorable.
To him.

The whole point of makeup is to make it look like you're not wearing any...so if you're that good at applying it...why not?

Also, the girls are probably right--check the ingredients list on your concealer vs. the girls' kind. They're probably identical.

^^I agree. If you are using it to cover up zits, then I'd say its fine if it says "for men" or not, but if you are doing your whole face like in foundation... If you are doing it just on your zits, then sure why not

I always felt bad for the guys who had bad complexions and couldn't cover up their zits like the girls can

I worked at a makeup counter and there would be guys who wanted concealer for black eyes, pimples, etc but were worried about it emasculating them. They would finally agree to get this Neutragena concealer with acne medication in it because apparently it wasn't so bad if it served a dual purpose.
I don't think a dab of concealer for a bad pimple is that big of a deal, but if its all over your face it would be weird for me. I doubt the mens formula is different from the womens other than the packaging.

I knew one guy years ago who would now be considered metrosexual. Very into his looks and clothing. He had that orange fake tan look (ew!) especially around the eyebrows (oh lawd it was bad). He dyed his hair blonde and wore nicer clothes but he wore a TON of makeup, mainly concealer and foundation. It was a trainwreck to see. Again, if it serves its purpose of covering up dark circles or a pimple, I see no big deal in that, but when you can personally fund any makeup company's yearly picnic, then you've gone a little far.

If it would make you feel better you could just write "for men" on the womens concealer!
