Man sets up dental practice in kitchen..

PEEKSKILL, New York - A man has been accused of operating an illegal dentist's office in the kitchen of his suburban New York City home and giving patients wine from a jug to help them cope with the pain.

Police arrested Carlos Flores on Tuesday night after raiding his home in Peekskill, about 45 miles north of midtown Manhattan. They say they learned about the dental office when a man who went there for a toothache ended up hospitalized after Flores broke the tooth while trying to pull it out.

Police say Flores treated poor Hispanics. They say they seized a dentist's chair, drugs and bloodstained orthodontic equipment from his kitchen.

Flores has been charged with practicing dentistry without a license. He says he was a licensed orthodontist in his native Ecuador.

OMG, I have a hard enough time letting a real dentist touch my mouth, I couldn't imagine! What sort of dental work does he do? Scarey and sad! People don't realize how serious gettng an infection/abcess in your mouth can be, lovely way to end up with endocarditis, meningitis or a brain abcess!

people aren't stupid, they do realize it, but when you are a illegal alien in a country with no insurance, and making $5-6/hr, you just say, fuck it, and roll the dice.

^^Yes, it is sad, there are just certain things that all human beings should have a right to. But I'm leaving it at that, I don't want to turn this thread into on of THOSE threads.

All of a sudden, I feel a need to go brush my teeth.

i agree with the above poster. you have to put yourself in his customers (victims) shoes in order to have a true understanding of this IMO.

Me too. I have four wisdom tooth that the dentist wanted to pull and I refused. I dislike the cleaning part so they should've known that they weren't about to pull or fill anything in my mouth.

I read that he had his dental license in another country so I assume people thought that he knew what he was doing and nothing could possibly go wrong.

He 'SAID' he was licensed in Ecuador...

Who knows if that is true?

However even in Ecuador, I do not think they use WINE or Whiskey as an anaesthetic for dental work..

Not anymore at least

^^^I guess I totally misread that part I thought the investigators said he had a license in Ecuador. Thanks for correcting me.

That was not what I meant, I grew up without insurance, gave me motivation , made failure all the more out of question (ok, admittedly healthcare wasn't the biggest driver, but there were other material incentives) in any case, if you give everyone a free ride, the country will soon be a shit hole because no one will have any incentive to work hard...
