AIRLINES SUCK!!!!!

AIRLINES SUCK! my mom sister and i just flew down to Myrtle beach where my parents just bought a new house, and the airline lost my moms luggage by the time we got here. no big deal right? they lose luggage all the time and most people get it back i assumed. well, today we got her suitcase back but when she opened it up, all the xmas presents and electronics in her suitcase were stolen. what kind of a person steals wrapped xmas presents from a suitcase. thats just wrong.

Sounds like an airport problem rather than the airlines. Probably luggage handlers - that seems to be where most of the theft problems lie in air travel.
I hope the ghosts of Christmas future comes to visit them very soon and they get a good scare for their bad deeds. Scrooges!

Wow, that's awful. Some airport employees also stole a few of my cousins' suitcases...and they were flying from FL and staying in CA for a month. Meaning, all of their shit was in there. When they got ONE (of many) of the suitcases back, it had been ransacked and all valuables were missing, of course. Sorry this happened to your mom

That really sucks! When Northwest lost my luggage, they were great about it. They delivered it to my dorm that night (about 4 hours later) and gave me an extra 2,500 miles on my WorldPerks account!

she filed a complaint and is creating a list of what was in the suitcase. if anything she said she thinks her homeowners insurance will cover it. either way, the money isnt the issue in the end, its the principle of the thing. the airline hasn't heard the last of her! haha

I'm sorry to hear that...I've had my luggage lost, transferred to another airline, and accidentally taken by another passenger...now I'm reluctant check anything. If she raises more of a fuss, hopefully she can at least get a free flight out of the situation?

the airline was US Airways. we normally fly southwest but the airport we were flying into didnt have southwest going there. she even filed a police report too so far.

i agree with buddha on this one, i ALWAYS carry on my luggage on domestic flights. If its too large to carry on its locked and all my electronics and valuables come with me in my purse (tote bag). Im sorry this happened

thanks, live and learn i guess right haha. i always take my valuables on the plane with me, the only thing worth anything in my bags that i check are my clothes. and i dont think most people are looking for clothes when they rifle through your bag.

haha same here. I keep all my important stuff with me at all times (camera, phone, laptop, money etc) and everything else gets checked. Normally a few jeans in there and some nice tops but nothing most thieves are looking for.

I hope they give her some kind of compensation for this! Makes you wonder if it were an employee who stole. Guess it could have been anyone.

Locking it doesn't matter. Airport security unlocks it and checks it if it's deemed "suspicious". They have master keys for most anything.

that is different from some baggage handler who makes $10/hr and switch jobs every 3 months.

The airport security checks/or customs checks are in a supervised room, with multiple people.

It makes me wonder how these workers get out of the airport with all the goods. It seems as though they would be checked. I guess not.

I didn't think you could lock suitcases anymore? I know they used to cut off locks if you put one on. Maybe they got rid of this stupid rule.

On edit; YES to carry-on luggage unless checked is absolutely necessary!

Urgh that really is crappy!

I made the mistake a couple of years ago of leaving a watch in a suitcase on my way back from Tunisia. Needless to say that disappeared. It wasn't expensive but it was a Christmas present from my Mum from a year before.

I'd been so careful about my other jewellery, camera etc and put them in my hand luggage but i just overlooked this one item. I was gutted.

I always lock my case now. Short haul flights from this country don't mention anything about locking your case. Long haul, to the US etc, used to stipulate not to, but when i went to Vegas this year i didn't read anything saying i couldn't.

eBags TSA-accepted 4-Dial Combo Lock (2pk) > Travel Locks > Travel Accessories - eBags

this way only TSA can get into your bag. They have a special master key to open all of their TSA-approved locks but nobody else can get into your bags. They are a lifesaver!

Yep, i've been using a combination lock for a few years now. It's easier for me to remember a number, cos i'd just lose those little keys!
