Depends on what you are looking for in a BDP. Do you have a home theater system with a reciever that has HDMI? If so I'd skip the PS3 (and from my understanding you do not play games), I'd recommend a Panasonic BD55 or a BD35 (depending on what kind of home theater setup you have). If you are looking for streaming from Netflix, the only player that is capable of doing that is the Samsung BDP-2550(its marketed exclusively by Best Buy). BDP-2500 is the exact same as 2550 less the Netflix streaming capability.
Panasonic players are a bit mature and reliable than Samsung but the 2500/2550 supposedly has ironed out all the shortcomings from their previous players. One big positive thing about the Samsung 25xx players is they use the HQV Reon for upscaling and its one of the best upscaling solutions. The Panny BD55/35 are equally great or better players as well. Both the Panny & Samsung are Profile 2.0 players. Those would be my top choices if you are looking for a BDP in the $300ish range.(I'd recommend the Denon BD3800 if you are looking in the 2K range..with the HQV Realta )
PS3 is a great solution if you are looking for a game console/bluray player. PS3 was cost advantageous last year when standalones were selling for the same price as PS3 but they have come down in price in the $300 range now. And PS3 has limited audio output options if you have a full fledged HT.
Avoid the el cheapo players from LG, Sharp et al. Panny BD55 or BD35 and Samsung 2500/2550 would be my top picks for a great BDP in the $300ish range.
I missed out mentioning Sony S550, but that is a good BDP as well. Its a tad pricier than Panny/Sammy and offers the same performance.

Actually the latest FW from Samsung should enable the BD2500 as well to stream movies from Netflix. So you are not confined to just the 2550. Both have the Reon which is arguably the best upscaling/unconvert solution in that price range. So either the 2500 or Panny BD55 would be great picks in that price range. BD35 does everything as BD55 except it has a 5.1ch built in decoder vs 7.1ch decoder.

I agree very much with sammy...Jesse get either the Panny 35K or 55K...you can't go wrong with those...

my husband just ordered a deal off amazon.com. He paid $180 for the Samsung player shipped and it came with his choice of 8 blu-ray discs. The movies alone were worth $180 so it ended up a really good deal. I don't believe it has any special features, as in Netflix. But it's a good player and was a great deal. I don't know if the deal is still available.

Depending on when you want it, the really good deals are usually found in Jan/Feb when everyone is poor after Christmas.
