Bartending :D

Okay, so after a $300 charge to my credit card, 5 night classes for bartending and a test, I am finally getting an interview!! I'm so excited, I'm only getting an interview, but I feel like I've already got a job
Does anyone know if the interviewer will ask you to make the drinks in front of them or just ask you to name the drinks? Also, what else should I expect for this interview? Thanks

I didn't know you had to take classes or a test. I just got a permit. I guess all states are different.

I was a bartender & they just taught me as I went along. I loved that job. I was good at it.

Good luck!

if the place is serious about their reputation, they will probably test you for speed and taste..all the swanky places did that to my BF when he was applying for jobs

Oh I didn't know that. My roommate and I were just looking for jobs and we saw the ad for bartender in the school paper, so we decided to call them up.
I thought it was an interview or something when I got there, but the guy told me that he is part of the bartender union and asked for $300 for certificate and classes O__o. I was kind of desperate for money, so I paid for that (They said we could make that back within 1-2 nights ). The classes or rather sessions that I attended were actually very helpful, so I feel a bit better about shelling out $300 XD.

Onelove, what was your hiring process like?

It all depends on where you are going to work at to say how much money you are going to make. Just cause you are bartending doesnt mean you are going to make $300 plus dollars. To make that kind of money you have to be really good and work at the right place.

Normally they ask you whats in a drink first,
then after you pass they will ask you to make a couple for them and whomever may be around just to test you...but thats my old bar

Good luck!

I'm definitely not telling myself that I'll be making $300 within 1-2nights, but I definitely think I'll be getting more than $400 a month. As long as I can pay my rent and eat, I am happy

I think your personality has a lot to do with the amount of tips you make as well as all the other things, like hours, and place of employment, clientele etc.

In some states you do need a certificate. Here in Lousiana you just need a state bar card.

sad but true.

99% of bartending jobs only hire those with established experience or give on the job training to employees already working for the company.

I went to bartending school b/f bartending. The nightclub scene and fine dining tested but it was really easy. Fine dining added the extra step of proper wine presentation which wasn't covered in "school". I loved bartending but that was many years ago !!! Good luck on the interview!

Hope you get your job.

Hmmm I've been a bartender in quite a few places in college. I've never been asked for money like that, but I hope you didn't get scammed and get the job.

My interviews were usually just questions but I had experience so I guess they didn't need me to do anything in front of them.

Be nice, smile a lot and you will get better tips. Once I noticed this one guy would come in a lot and never tip me, so then I started calling him "honey" when he came in and then he started tipping me You have to work in a large club or something to make $150 in tips in one night, and you have to be BUSY too....IMO I've never made more than $200 in tips in one night, but have gotten around $150 a few times and that was working from like 5pm to 2am and the club was PACKED.
