I use esnipe: eSnipe - Bid on eBay Automatically - eSnipe 3.0
They charge fees though. I've heard there some that are free, but I'm too lazy to switch.

Another vote for esnipe here! Even though there is a small fee, it is a very small fee and enipe has never let me down.

I have esnipe. I didn't realize there were free ones though

Maybe have to keep checking on this thread to see what gets the most votes

i've never liked these things. regardless of when you place the bid you'll never beat someone who enters a higher price. i just enter the most i'm willing to pay, if it goes past that, chances are it's more than i feel the item is worth.

That's not the point of sniping, it's to pay the lowest possible amount. Of course you still lose with a lower highest bid, but anything else, you have a possibility to save by sniping.

i could see this working on an illiquid auction where you don't have a lot of people going at it and the seller starts low.

Yes, how much you can save is affected by liquidity, number of bidders, and the difference between the starting price and final price.

I was hoping a friend bid on a purse for his gf. I set a bid on auctionsniper.com for $710 and the auction ended at $705. Our bid didn't go on at all. It's not the first time with auctionsniper.com. I think I am going to try some other ones mentioned here.

^I had a problem with them as well; their site was down for awhile last summer and none of my bids went through. Luckily it wasn't on anything major or I would have been seriously pissed.

Sniping prevents bid wars--you know, when you think that your bid is the highest you're willing to pay, but once you see that someone else wants the item too, your concept of the maximum price goes out the window and you just want to beat that other person out. There's no chance for that when you snipe.
