Marines toys for tots program...

Hello . I know that for many this year has been a rough one. There have been a lot of people losing their jobs and because of this there are many more children then usual who may have to miss out on Christmas this year. Every year the Marine Corps. holds a toy drive called "toys for tots". they deliver toy to children who do not have. I would like to encourage those who can, to donate a toy at any one of the nearby drop off locations. You can find a location nearby by clicking on this link and finding your state Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. If you can not find a drop off center nearby and would still like to contribute, you can make a donation online. Thank you all for your help & support. it is very much appreciated!

Marine Toys for Tots Foundation

PS I am not affiliated with toys for tots, I just thought it would be a nice gesture to help out since I know this year there will probably be a greater need then usual. Thanks again.

We contribute to this every year. It breaks my heart to think about kids not having Christmas presents. Thanks for posting this!

I'm not american so obviously won't be donating to this particular organization, but I'll be buying some toys to donate to drives here. I've been wondering though, what kinds of toys to buy... I've got dolls and batman stuff, but do you know, do they look for presents for particular ages? or anyone with suggestions as to what would be some good gifts to buy would be great.

^Any kind of toy would be good. They serve to children of different ages. Just make sure it's a new toy, no used toys.

(everyone) Even if you don't have much money, you could find a $5 toy and donate. The toys DO NOT have to be big or expensive .

Yeah, there was an article on CNN that was about how this program wasn't getting enough donations this year to get toys to all the kids. Donations were down about 30-40% due to economic hardships, I think.

Glad you posted this! I think I'll go out to Meijer tomorrow and buy something. I can't spare much, but I never really donate anything during Xmas and I feel like I should this year

The majority of the boxes I have seen locally are empty. My business is collecting non-perishable food items for the United Way and no one has brought any. My employees and myself are the only ones that have contributed.

Keeping in mind that your "locally", Nascarolina is not a representative sample of the US.

I think it is more of a representation of the piss poor state our economy is in. Toys for Tots has always been a successful charity in my area. So what this basically boils down to is once you again you don't know what the fuck you are talking about.

We collected for toys for tots at our annual christmas party at work. We've got a whole barrel full and some overflow. It was a pretty great turn-out for donations. Our office also always adopts a family at christmas from the local Christmas Bureau and get presents for them instead of buying for each other.

And Buddha, I am in NC too... AND closer to being Nascarolina than Shelley...

I am in Nascarolina as well. Many areas of the state are quite affluent, but that doesn't mean that we aren't touched by the economic downturn as well. If there is one thing that can be said about southerners, they are very generous people and if they are struggling to get toys here, then they are struggling everywhere.

They have T4T boxes at my son's school. They are trying to give toys up to 17 year olds in the area this year and are struggling most with the 13 - 17 year old group, so I am giving for that age range.

I donated this year, but I might donate again because donations are so low. I have heard that the biggest drop in donations is for the teenagers in the program, ages 12-15. This time of year always reminds me of how fortunate I am.
