palazzo pants with tapered legs

So I'm really into 80's fashion and I'm thinking about integrating some wider-legged pants back into my wardrobe. But I don't want to look like a 14-year old raver/skater kid either...I'm 5'6" and about 95-97 pounds, size 23-24. So yeah. Is it possible to find wide leg pants that are still cut pretty narrowly through the hips so that I don't swim in them? I'm not opposed to getting them tailored but I'd like to start with a silhouette that works best for my figure. I have a few pairs of dress pants but I was thinking of something slightly more casual. I'm also thinking of trying those palazzo pants that have the tapered legs...I think they're also called "genie pants" or something? (See Demi Moore circa 1984) I've been into wearing feminine-looking tops with blazers, ditching the t-shirts and hoodies...looking to branch out beyond skinny jeans and leggings! Any ideas? As for my budget, $50 and under would be best. Thanks!

It has been only 3 hours since you started this thread Probably, you should wait a little longer.. not everyone checks the AF every day either. Sorry, but unfortunately I have nothing to add to your thread apart of that I was born in 80s Good luck!

Yeah, that was approximately three years ago and I like to think we've all moved on a bit. Well, except for the fact that we're obviously all still here. But you know what I mean.

...I've always wanted to use that emoticon.

Anyway, hooray for the 80's. Though the jury's still out on the palazzo pants...

That's what I found when I Googled "tapered palazzo pants."

You could try a classic wide leg from Banana Republic. Their martin fit comes with many different "legs" but the fit in the waist/hip/upper thigh is always straight, only the leg changes.

Ha ha! Um, not quite. I thought of Banana Republic, but their sizes run kinda big and their 0's hang on me. I think the only solution might be to build a time machine...

Although! #7 could almost be cool if it weren't that icky texture. I think #8 is the best thought. :P

I could be wrong, but if we are using the real definition of "palazzo pant" isn't tapered-palazzo an oxymoron?

Yeah, harem pants... As long as they don't have a dropped crotch! Strangest fashion trend ever...or, wide-leg pants that aren't wide through the hip as well. Which is the issue I ran into with Banana Republic...

I guess it doesn't make a difference if you wear a shirt over that part? Does it look weird? I can see why they'd be comfortable but I feel like the droopy crotch would be...well, droopy.

^that pair looks weird. There are plenty of pairs out there that do not look so strange. These look much better to me:

It almost looks better/less load-in-the-pants when the crotch is MORE dropped. Strange. Okay, I think I just thread-crapped my own thread. Anyway. After trying on several pairs of pants that aren't skinny fit or flared, I have come to the conclusion that I probably need to learn how to walk in heels before attempting a different silhouette. ...Oh well...

I have a pair from Anthro that I call my Hammer Pants...definitely not as drop crotch as the ones posted above.

I think as long as you aren't wider on the bottom they would work on you. They are definitely not for every body type. I find that wearing mine with heels is a must, if I wear flats I look short and wide.

Those are cool. See, I would probably tuck mine into boots, generally. Hmm...
