Banana Republic has some great suits at relatively affordable prices. I just picked up their charcoal modern fit. It's definitely more of a tailored look that slims down a bit in the waist/body, but I also ordered one of their tailored fit suits in charcoal as well off their website. The tailored fit slims down even more in the waist and the arms are a bit less loose. For a 6' tall, relatively slim and slender guy at 165lb, the tailored fit suit matches up with my body type much better. I'll try them both on before I make a final decision though.
Most BRs have a supple selection of the modern fit, but not all have a complete selection of the tailored fit, which is why I had to order my charcoal online. I was at least able to try on the same tailored cut in navy so I could compare the two cuts side by side. The jacket and pants combo will cost around $500, but if you're a student, you get 15% off, and if you use your BR card, you currently can get additional 10% off as well.
Also, as mentioned before, Nordstrom Rack has some excellent suits too for cheap. Mine had a decent selection of Hugo Boss suits for $400. Not as many in charcoal though at my store unfortunately. There are a lot of nice suits out there in the $400 to $500 price range. I wouldn't recommend going too much lower than that though. With suits, you very much get what you pay for.
