Shoes & Boots for your dry denim!
Footwear that look better with age and a selvedged cuff :magwink
Looking good! I definitely need a pair of brown boots. I've been wearing my dry denim with chucks.
^ Show us your chucks! :D
Been on a slight boot spree lately, wanted to alter my footwear wardrobe from pointy shoes to more practical, but better made, trad. boots:
Tricker's Stow in espresso calf leather and Tricker's Grasmere in black scotch grain leather.
Both Goodyear welted (360 degree), double-veg. tanned-midsole with Commando outsole, top grain veg. tanned leather for upper & inner lining.
Both are traditionally styled (& constructed) English country boots.
The contours of the Grasmere are a bit more chunky, and I bought them for work.
The Stow with all the brogueing and pinking is an English classic, more of a weekend boot.
I did some DIY modifications by sanding and oiling/waxing the the edges of the leather mid-soles & heelstacks.
With my girlfriend's calfskin boots:
Tricker's and a handful of other traditional shoe makers differ from modern footwear producers in that they hand-make or bench-make all their products using very traditional methods (hand cutting, hand lasting, various welted constructions) and real leather (properly tanned leather, Tricker's mostly using vegetable tanned leathers from Italy, as opposed to the thinner chrome-tanned leathers on 'modern' men's footwear.)
The upper will look better with age (won't peel to a blue corium like most), and the sole unit is easy to replace because of the welted construction (could last decades if cared for!)
Decided to give American boots a try too :magwink
And no better place to start then Alden's 403 Chromexcel 'high work shoe', or the Indy boots as they're better known (worn by Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones.)
Is has an incomplete Goodyear welted make-up with a steel shank bridging the heel to the outsole.
This allows for a slimmer heel profile, and the shank makes up for the area of weakness where the welting ends and where the boot bends with walking.
The leather is Horween's Chromexcel, a chrome-tanned then vegetable re-tanned pull-up leather - a less refined but more rugged leather than what Tricker's uses. It is more water resistant and takes a polish or conditioner more easily.
As with all Goodyear welted footwear, the sole unit is easy to replace, allowing years of service!
Thanks for sharing these beautiful pictures!! I especially liked the first one as it is in dark brown color which is one of my favorite colors.
