OPINIONS: Do I give up on SFAM dry or suck it up and make right?

So,

For some reason I have wanted a pair of SFAM raws. Not really sure why but it has been something set in my head. I tried three different pairs I won on eBay in the past year but all were horrible in their own ways.

So these came today. They are a sample pair of bootcuts that didn't go through wash and are 100% cotton. I'm a TTS 32 but these are a 31 since I knew they would stretch out.

Again, they are bootcuts but I call them SUPER bootcuts since they are similar to a flare (opening 10"!). If I don't get rid of them I see my options as either hemming since you can tell by the first picture that mess at the bottom is no stacking by any means. Plus all my other raws are straight narrow cuts so to have one bootcut wouldn't be THAT bad..... OR having the leg taken in / tapered.

They weren't that much $ so I would be willing to put a little more into them but i'm not sure if it's even worth it.

Thoughts?

Here is the first pic, pretty nasty.

False, I must say SFAM are my go to jeans, they're the most comfortable out of all my jeans. I wore my SFAM for the first time in 2 months after wearing my APCs and boy does it feel like heaven.
In regards to the jeans, I wouldn't bother with them. Get them tapered if you wish, but don't dedicate too much time on them.

I actually love this $9 shirt.

Prez day the whole store was 40% off and it was already on sale. It's a large and was the only one left but could have def gone with a medium if they had. But jews can't be choosers, something like that.

The leg openings really do look huge. If you're tired of trying to find pairs, but still want the SFAM, then I'd say take them to your tailor. IMO, it looks like sizing down one more would still work for you but the current fit from waist to thigh still looks fine with this pair, good luck.

I'm going to generalize and say that anyone will find a pair of prewash SFAM more comfortable than dry denim to beign with. I mean, this stuff is stiff as hell and it isn't very forgiving. It cuts into the back of your knees lol It takes a little to get used to wearing heavy denim. Even after it loosens up it is still stiffer than my SFAM. I get the feeling that when I go back to wearing my SFAM it will feel like I am naked without my layer of denim armor. I think it's a perfectly reasonable comparison to make since they are both jeans and comfort can be assessed. Also as cram mentioned they do make a pair of dry denim called rigid but nobody knows what they are like since nobody has them :( I'm keeping an eye out for them myself.

Cram, I'm with you on SFAM. I've been wearing them for years and even though in the last few years I've gone to 90% dry/selvage denim, I still have a soft spot for SFAM (and likely always will).
I think if you've only got a small amount invested, then go ahead and hit up your tailor to have them 'slimmed' down through the entire leg. If you really do want a dry pair of SFAM, it seems this is the only way you're going to get it and have it in a slimmer-than-bootcut fit. If I were in your shoes, I would do the same with this pair. I've always wanted a pair of SFAM dry's myself, but haven't had the opportunity (aside from the Rigid, which I didn't like when I tried them on), but you can bet your ass if I could find an unwashed pair I would jump on it.
To those that don't like SFAM...oh well. It's all about personal preference and no matter what you say, it's still OPINION.

Well, I do agree that, depending on sizing and cut, a pair of light weight, prewashed jeans will be easier to wear then heavier, unwashed denim. But the thing is that the 'raw' is only one stage, and most of the jeans that I've broken into eventually become very comfortable (esp. Sugar Canes :thumbsup).

I just think it's very acceptable for comfort of wear to be a priority consideration when picking denim, they are pants after all - comfort is a big consideration for me (but I never wear mine raw, always 'shrink to fit')!

I agree with above post, whether you like SFAM or not is OPINION, being a denim elitist doesn't help encourage people into our hobby.

Back on topic though...
@lilcram: I think this pair would be an good relaxed bootcut if you shrink them aggressively and hem them up - that way the leg opening will be closer to 9", and the leg portions will fit better. If you want to alter them, it's best done when all the shrinking has been completed so you won't be surprised by funny measurements after the first wash.
