| | | annoyed - ebay purchase help Sorry this story is a little long but I am hoping for some advice on how to proceed...
I have been looking for short inseam (unhemmed) NYD Dojos for a while, and I recently purchased these: eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices
There were no photos of the hems, and the inseam listed is 31", so I messaged the seller with the following: "have the jeans been hemmed or are they the ones that come with a 31" inseam? Could you please email me photos of the hems Thanks!" Seller's response: " They have not been alterted. They are exactly as I bought them. I am out of state till Monday, so I cannot take pics at this time, sorry."
Monday was the day the auction ended...so, knowing "as she bought them" doesn't necessarily mean they were purchased new or not previously altered, I followed up with: "Thank you for your response - not a problem about the photos. did you buy them new or pre-owned? I know these jeans were made with both regular (ridiculously long, like 35 inch) inseams as well as "short" (30-31 inch) inseams. If they are the ones that came "short" they are just what I am looking for! Is there any damage on the back of the hems? Sorry for so many questions! " Seller's response: " I bought the jeans new from a department store. Yes they are the "short" lenght, since Im ony 5'4" I was able to wear them. There is no damage to the hems. Also, the hems are wider on this jeans around 11/2" were other jeans are around 1/2". Again, I never alterted them, that is how they came. I think since they are a "wide leg" so to speak, the hems go with the style of the jeans, kinda retro lol. I rather you ask questions, & be happy then not ask at all."
I received the jeans yesterday and here are photos of the hems :
Not only have they clearly been hemmed w/ originals, but the hems are uneven and closer to 32" than 31" (definitely no shorter than 31.75") - I know in most cases inseams longer than listed are a plus, but for me 31 is my max "with heels" inseam, so closer to 32 definitely doesn't work for me.
I don't think the seller was trying to pull a fast one, I genuinely believe they did not know they had been hemmed (I think they bought them at a thrift store b/c they have a random short plastic tag still attached under the waist band). So, I don't want to piss them off, but I want to return them (they don't accept returns) - what to do?

| | | There is a chance that she bought them and they were a returned pair; there are times when people have jeans hemmed and never pick them up (I'll never understand why, but people are weird). So she may not even know...or she's lying...no way to ever know for sure.
I'd just resell them too. |

That was a great price. You can definitely sell those for more and make all your money plus some. |

| | | How you proceed depends on what you want to do. Do you want to return them? Or are you fine with reselling them? If you're wanting to return, just message the seller and nicely state that they have been altered and would like to return them since they are not as described. If you're cool with reselling them, then I'd just message her and let her know that they've been altered.
I've messaged sellers before when something is messed up (but I plan on keeping them anyways) and just let them know that they should pay closer attention. I try to make a nice message though and not come off as bitchy or anything. Most people that I've messaged have been cool about it and never took offense.
If you keep them, you can still fold hem them to your preferred length.

| | Thanks for the advice. Yeah, I was so happy to get them for so cheap, of course it was too good to be true ! I hadn't even thought about keeping them to resell. I am just worried I'll get a buyer that is unhappy with the hem job, since it's far from perfect . And I really don't want to add to my sell pile unless she absolutely refuses a return - with a full time job and a young baby, it's freaking impossible for me to find time to photograph and measure all of them ! As far as fold-hemming, I definitely want to wait out for a pair that come with short hems. I've tried on a few pairs of hemmed dojos and they just don't do it for me. I guess I will email her nicely about a return and go from there...

| | I hope she is receptive. Most sellers just don't know about jeans much less sewing... in addition, most aren't as picky or detail oriented as many on this site seem to be. If she won't refund, I'm pretty sure if u opened a case with ebay, they would side with you anyway and have her take them back plus then there would be a good chance they'd even cover the return shipping.
Also, I have no idea about washes and cuts or anything in SFAM but I was watching these and they look to have a short inseam and be dark like the ones you bought. I thought they would be pretty with the rest of the stud thingys removed. AUTHENTIC SEVEN FOR ALL MANKIND DOJO JEANS SZ 27 | eBay |

| | Really? The inside tags of the one Lauren posted look weird, but maybe I'm just not familiar with them.

| | ^^ There's no need to get defensive or rude about it. All I'm saying is that the tag photos from that auction don't resemble these to me at all. The font is different, the 7 is shaped differently, etc. I guess we can just agree to disagree.

| | They look real to me as well...probably look off bc they are a straight to discount pair...IMO most S2D pairs aren't as high quality so may appear to be a little off in one way or another

| | | That's totally bizarre that the S2D tags are so different from the standard tags. Anyway, my mistake then. I don't have any S2Ds, so I wouldn't know.

(with size tag off to the side, style and cut numbers not printed on large brown tag but on a separate tag underneath the brown one, etc) |

| | | You could either resell them or take them to a competent seamstress to repair the hem to a "California hem." |
