| | | boiling foils so i have a pair of car foil kates that i need to shrink a size. i read all the threads on boiling and didn't find anything that addressed this. if there's one i missed i apologize for the new thread.
maureen was the only mention of boiling foils, but not enough info. has anyone boiled foil pockets? did the foil come out okay? should i put clear nail polish on before? do car foils even need clear nail polish or is that more tah foil a pockets? hopefully car isn't one of the unshrinkable washes...
i've got the whole method down, but i just don't want all of the foil to come off so if anyone has any advice of personal experience on this topic i would appreciate it.

| | I do not recommend boiling foils but that is just me hun, you better off selling and finding your size. Trust me I have boiled quite a few jeans they always go back to their original size

| | I agree with Kimoy. I had some Costa Rica Kates that were at least a full size big on me. I boiled them twice with minimal (and i mean minimal) results. In the end i sold them and got some CAR Kates that fit.

| | My 2 pairs of CAR sigs stretch way out between washes too, at least a 1/2 size or more....I don't think you will be able to successfully shrink CAR wash enough |

| | okay everyone, thank you! i appreciate you taking the time to answer. i was going to chance it, but i guess i won't. can't see the point of sending a pair of kates down the drain.
and pc, my tts is a 25.5 and these are a 25, so

| | | ^yeah, my frustration isn't necessarily towards people trying to boil shrink things (although I think that's dumb when there's probably a 24 for you somewhere and a size 26 girl who'd love those 25s) as much as people who cut/butcher/alter things when it's not hard to find their own size. |

| | | I don't disagree with you PC, but if you get a realllly great deal, you might still be inclined to try to alter a size that's not fitting right instead of paying retail or just way more for a pair in your size. Plus, some folks are really good at altering, so it's not butchering.
I, for one, have a body shape with a big butt and thighs and a relatively small waist. Any pair that accomodates my big ass is huge in the waist, so if I don't want to wear a big bulky belt, I have to alter the waist. If I buy the size that fits my waist, I have to stretch the thighs.

| | yeah, i got them at a great price. bnwt $41 shipped. i tried them on again today and they fit a little better (i was either having a "skinny day" saturday or a "fat day" today ), so i'll keep them around for a bit. maybe just a hot wash and dry. we'll see what happens.
eta: although i bet they'll end up being saggy butt after a couple of hours, huh? i'll wear them around the house and see.

If I buy the size that fits my waist, I have to stretch the thighs. | I have the exact same body type and I just go for cuts and washes that fit me right off the rack--or else I use temporary, removable alterations (see my Tahiti Foil As thread where I darted the waist) You won't see any Kates in my wardrobe or washes that are cut in a way that doesn't work with my body. |

and re: settling for a size up due to impatience.. it's not impatience when you know there won't ever be your size showing up, right?
i would buy my own damn size if i could

i would buy my own damn size if i could | Well, for you, it's a bit more understandable Even so, there are reversible methods for doing almost any alteration you can imagine...I generally only need the waist nipped in, but you can do hips, thighs, legs, anything--then let it out if you need to pass them on |

If vanity sizing would disappear, I could actually buy my "size". |

I think this comment is so uncalled for yes everyone is entitiled to their opinion. But op was so excited about the jeans and trying to make them work. Not everyone buys jeans to resell and there are tons of articles everywhere on how hard it is for women to find jeans that fit them well, if she wanted to boil them obviously she was really excited about the jeans and sometimes we sacrafice like others have said and buy a different size an alter the jeans to fit us b/c it easier than an endless search with no results.
you make it seem like every pair of jeans you buy are perfect for you and you have never tried to make any pair work? highly unlikely IMO

| | ^the only alterations I EVER EVER make to jeans are TEMPORARY, REMOVABLE and won't damage the jeans and I've only had to do that to one pair! Every other pair has fit me right out of the package...and I don't have a proportionate body type. If I can find jeans that fit right away, everyone else can too.
I am still pissed about the pair of beautiful Skynards I found at Plato's Closet that had been (poorly, at that) permanently altered at the butt and waist, so although they had started out a 29, they certainly weren't when I found them if anyone knows who that was, let me know so I can throttle her!
ETA: here's the tahiti foil thread I've been referencing. This is the only pair I have ever had to do anything to in order to make them fit (besides wear a belt). i'd rather be in TAHITI (foil A's, finally!) *PICS* The darts (and fold hems) are completely removable and, aside from some creasing that would come out in the wash, will do no damage to the jeans. I only did this because these were on my wishlist for at least a year and they're sized differently in the waist than they are everywhere else. Every other pair I have, besides having been fold hemmed, has needed absolutely no alteration.

| | i wanted CAE dojos so badly that i was willing to size down in them and do about 1000 lunges to make them fit. but i'm in that size range where there isn't a size up from my size. but i can understand wanting a pair so badly that you will buy up..to size down. if i could, i would! |

Not everyone has the same mentality oh it doesn't fit forget it! Besides all OP wanted to know was if boiling them would help the sizing, if she asked about the waist we would tell her to dart them anything helpful IMO Not tell her buy her own DAMN Size? how helpful is that I told her it wont work and she is better off selling them and keep searching, but telling her buy her own DAMN size is so negative. Kates are hard enough to find as it is so I can understand where she is coming from.
