| | ^ i can relate big time, because i think i can wear a 31 waist-wise, but i need a 32 for the hips. i'm oddly shaped. so telling me to buy my actual size is kind of hard for me to do, but i'm not going to completely ignore the jeans I like because they are a little big in some places. i do understand that hemming them without the fold method or cutting the jeans in any way makes it hard to resell, but most of the time when i buy jeans i'm not going to resell them, or only sell the pairs that i never got around to hemming or altering.
lauren - i wouldn't suggest gaining to make them fit... but i'm sure in some way you can make them work! |

| | for the record, i bought them under the impression that they were my size. i didn't buy them with the intention of having to do anything to me except have them dry cleaned for stain removal.
also, my intention for this thread was just to find out if anyone had boiled a pair with a foil applique and if so, did the foil peel or anything. maureen said she tried it on tah a's and it set them. i was curious if anyone else had an experience.
in this thread, i found out that they would just stretch back out. so even if i decided to take the risk of damaging the foil it wouldn't be worth it because it wouldn't really fix my problem. Quote:

you're very lucky that you've had such success with every pair except for one, but most people don't. so applause for you and your magic formulas, pc, but not everyone is you. Quote:

eta: "gaining to make them fit" made me i would, but then none of my other jeans would fit but honestly, i'm not even that crazy about this pair.

| | | The jeans are yours, and you are welcome to do what you wish with them.
You should not be made to feel guilty for making an item you paid for and own, to fit you as you like if that is possible.
Enough said.
IMO.

| | Holy POOP! I have altered most of my jeans (mostly permanently too). I paid for them, and I'll alter them as needed.
Hell, I even alter jeans my tailor won't touch! Usually I alter the thighs, etc. without cutting until I decide they look right...then snip snip!
VERY VERY rarely do I have jeans fit me right out of the box. |

IMO. | Thank you. I totally agree.
Lauren, I've found that throwing jeans through a hot wash is sometimes better than boiling. No waiting for water to boil, no standing over a hot stove stirring jeans... You can try turning them inside out and washing on hot. It's worth a try, I think.
And DEAR GOD, they're all JUST JEANS. They're not thousand dollar shoes or handbags. If I can make a pair fit, damn it, I'm going to do it!

| | Dude, for the record, I said the "buy your own damn size" thing in kind of a joking manner (hence the rofl) but you all took it way too fucking seriously. Now, had she been cutting and butchering the jeans, I would be dead serious. Nothing like the wrath you will get from me if you have something on my wishlist in my size that you altered out of the size! |

If people choose to alter jeans, that is their own damn business. They own the jeans, not you. And if they have jeans in your size, but choose to alter them, too bad for you, huh? It's their prerogative to do whatever they want with their jeans.

| | I hope you can get them to work for you!!
And, sorry for the T.C. but I have a pair of these also and wondered about the clear nail polish? How well does that work because I've noticed that some of the "foil" is already starting to come off.
(Sorry.....I know I should "search" this but I figured since this is already about foils anyway......) |

| | i tested a bit on it on the inside of the waistband to see how it would discolour the denim since it's a lighter wash and it darkened it for sure. if you did it very carefully it probably wouldn't be noticeable at all. i think saki is going to try it on her's. if the foil is peeling i would go ahead and try it. but that's just my opinion.

i can't tell you how many pairs i've bought that are above my size and i'm perfectly happy with them. not every pair has to fit perfectly.
