"Denim Care" section in AF Denim & Clothing

so i was thinking that a section devoted to the care (washing, shrinking, stretching, hemming, etc) of our beloved would be great. much like the 7FAM forum had on HF. i know i just spent all day researching hems over at HF, but since many of are here now, i thought that communication/opinions/info would be more available here.

i know that this may sometimes be more individualized to brands, but i thought a general section would be easiest for everyone.

what do you all think? agree?

if this has already been mentioned, um, then i agree. again.

Agree. Why not start one? Gather together the consensus we have formed prior.

Yes!
Can we also have a section on customising... eg. with crystals?

i think that customizing could be included in the "care" section, hot_chocolate!

I think a few stickies in the gener denim category could cover most of the information mentioned.

Maybe one for shrinking, wash and dry safely, customizing, stretching, & hem methods each.

do you mean in the general discussion category or the denim & clothing? i was thinking denim and clothing, say underneath "other brands" or above "diesel". this way, it stays compressed so you don't have to see it if you don't need to, and the topics are not taking up room at the top of the board. personally i think there are a lot of stickies in general discussion already. just MO.

In the general denim discussion arena. That is what I thought the section was pretty much for.

i see what u'r saying. but that's what the denim sections are for, too. i just feel like it would be more catagorized/organized in the denim section, since there are so many stickies already and that is specifically its subject anyway.
but, no matter where it is, i still think it would be really helpful, and i hope it works out.

totally agreed!!!!! any help for newbies, or people with a question that we dont have to answer 70 times is great.

Although I dont mind spouting the evils of tide a million times if that makes people quit using it.

I may be self-proclaimed, but I am very knowledgeable about the properties of fibers in fabric (avid knitter). Any help I can add, I will!

I might even write a whole paper for you guys on the individual ingredients in Tide (and most grocery-store detergents) and tell you what they do to your clothes, and what you are really putting on your body.

i got it! i think that there should be stickies of guidelines for the care in this new section... but let the rest of the section be for questions, opinions and pictures. there, that works!
that way everything is grouped together but still really organized, all basic info is at the top of the board.

or instead of denim specific, maybe "clothing + accessory care and construction"

I wouldn't mind having the guide I wrote on customizing and glue hemming here too...if that's ok.

jenny, your post is part of what made me want this section! i loved how organized it was. i almost glue-hemmed my jeans tonight, but i'm thinking i'll just tack them so i can take it out easier if i have to!
but after hours and hours of searching and reading, it made me think how great it would be if it was all combined together.

Inca, I just realized, we no longer have the "general Denim Discussion" section, so yeah, we need a whole care section. It used to be there, but now it is gone!!!!!

Great idea! I was just looking for Keri's DIY distressing thread on HF yesterday. That was really helpful.

I would love a section like this. I am a maniac with a pair of scissors and a sewing machine.
I'd like to see what people are doing to their jeans.

Hey guys,

Ok, i'm going to copy the post of the glue hemming and custom crystallizing. I guess I would just post it here? (sorry...my brain is still recuperating from finals).

i think either maybe wait until we get a section together, that way we don't have repeating threads. i haven't heard any response to this thread yet, though... has anyone else?
