HOW TO Fold, and SHIP Jeans in FLAT RATE Envelope

For these purposes:
FOR THESE Purposes, this package is going international
so they are in the EXPRESS FLAT RATE.

THE PRIORITY FLAT RATE is the same size
and works exactly the same way.

Womens Size 30 SFAM

FOLD jeans like this, tucking in the crotch seam to make jeans folded in compact rectangle shape.

Slide them into Tyvek envelope sideways THIS WAY as shown:

Shake them down into the bottom HALFof the Tyvek:

FOLD over the empty half of the Tyvek and seal it up.
THIS is the step where if you must kneel or sit on package to expel extra air, you do so.

Slide Tyvek into the flat rate envelope in THIS position:

Package now FULLY in the Flat Rate.

SEAL up the flap of the Flat Rate.

VOILA!!
You are now ready to apply your shipping labels!!

I've done that, except there is one dude at my post office here that says the flat rate is "too bulky." That's what the automated machine is for though

You can order the all the various free shipping supplies from the usps website too. It costs nothing and the post man drops off your boxes/envelopes at your home when he delivers the mail. It's super convenient!

MY PO tells me the RULES are, it needs to be IN the envelope and CLOSED on its own with NO added TAPING required to close it.

It works

It doesn't matter what the hell your PO "thinks" the rules are, the rules in the postal regulations state that you can put ANYTHING in there that will fit (no such thing as "too bulky"), so long as you do not open up and reassemble the envelope to a different shape, and the flap closes on its own. You can then TAPE over the flap and seams as well. This is all right in the regulations.

BTW i don't fold mine like that joan. lol. I fold them in half, then in thirds.

Sometimes I have to do that also, depending on the size.

I think the important thing is to have the configuration of the jean in the right rectangular shape so it fits width wise nicely in the flat rate.

Your post office is wrong tell them to read the DMM. It has the actual postal regulations in it ... not just what some nitwit who gets paid to work at the counter thinks.

common misconception. FLAT RATE does NOT mean the package must be FLAT. Flat rate means 1 flat rate for any weight! They have a weight limit of like 60 lbs on the domestic flat rater.

Tape can be used.

Here we go... pics on how i do it, which imo is the only way to do flap pocket TR's. Here is a nice fat mens Billy super T.

After folding them in half (like folding the crotch seam over to put the legs on top of each other), fold them in half again at the knee, making sure to leave the waist a little bit SHORT of the end of the hem, this distributes the bulk better. Tuck the crotch area under on larger pairs.

Now fold in thirds, making sure your folds result in the flap lying like this, you do not want to fold in the middle of the flap:

Slide in Tyvek like Joan

Slide Tyvek in FR

I tape the more bulgey ones, so here's tape, yes tape, as is perfectly allowed, and the paypal label stuck over the flap whether or not i use tape:

What helps me to strengthen the envelope is I tape the seams of the envelope BEFORE putting the jeans/clothing into the envelope. It makes the envelope strong already when you try to slide the jeans in. Plus the taping looks cleaner as well, many times not getting noticed by the USPS.

Anyways, I ALWAYS bring a copy of the DMM with me into the Post Office JUST IN CASE one the PO workers tries to question it. One PO worker actually did, whipped out the DMM and showed him exactly what it said. Those are regulations as mentioned earlier and they have to follow them and not make up their own rules. I carry a copy of the DMM in my car with that specific section highlighted at all times.

Oh yah further like to add, if you use the self-adhesive labels and print them from PP and USPS, they are also essentially tape and can use the to go over the flaps and thus add extra sealing stregth to the seams.

Even better is the International Flat Rate Express Mail Envelope. You are required to use the customs envelope with the customs forms you print from USPS and place it on the envelope. With strategic placement you can use that to seal the flaps as well. I used a pair of men's sz 40 R&R's (yes 40 men's) to illustrate I have done it for jeans that big:

Here are pics of my method above. As you can see I use the top of the custom's envelope to cover over the flaps and thus it is like tape and they sure as hell will NOT argue over this as it is REQUIRED. I only ship international in Express Mail Flat Rate Envelopes as the cost difference with insurance is only a buck or 2 and you get faster shipping (suppposedly), better tracking, and more Paypal protection. First $100 insurance is free, 75 cents each $100 after that. I can ship a pair of jeans to Canada for $20.99 with up to $200 insurance and even better $23.75 REST OF WORLD with up to $200 insurance. Really good rates imo.

Pfft, R&R are thin, child's play

But yeah, with some practice, you can get things you almost can't believe in there. I've done size 38 mens super T's, the huge floor length Seven skirts that are like 2 pairs of jeans. And yeah, i once shipped 2 R&R's in the same flat rate. lol. They were size 24 though.

I use Art's method sending stuff and never had any problems with jeans. Sending a troll still wearing those jeans is still problematic for me. He doesn't like being folded.

No wonder I've always had a problem.. I never tucked the crotch seam in. Oops!

And my PO says I'm not allowed to tape it cause it adds weight that is not supposed to be added or whatever. I'll tell 'em whats up next time;)

Thanks for posting how you professionals do it. Hehe
