You guys did a great job! Jess, this is so helpful for those who need it.

I'm also one of the lucky ones who doesn't have to hem jeans (yes, even R&R). I have had two pairs hemmed for flats, and sold them both...they ended up too short.

Anyway, this is perfect, and I'm thinking of trying this out on my girls' sfam; they are walking on their hems!! I make them roll them for now...Their TRs are fine.

Nola, I would love a guide on lengthening jeans. P-U-L-L-L-L-L!!

Holy Cow! This is so easy. I by no means am a seamstress and I just got done hemming two pair of jeans. They look great. I even hemmed a pair of Rainbow Joeys with the flare and couldn't be happier with the outcome. I highly recommend doing this yourself. It's a snap. Thanks BabyJ!

Great pictures and guide! I just inadvertently duplicated your instructions in another thread; sorry, I didn't mean to appear to steal your work. I love this way of hemming and have had great success with it. It is so fast and easy and gives really professional looking results.

Are there other guides here for alterations to waistbands and legs? I am not happy with my methods. I know ideally we shouldn't have to do any of that, but as an on-line buyer I've learned that stated measurements can vary depending on how they are taken, and sometimes they're completely wrong. If I like the jeans I usually try to alter them to fit.

I just wanted to add the pics of my Joeys so you all could see that it's possible to hem them this way as well

BabyJ, I explained your method to my friend and she did my Nakita bootcuts. I got them back tonight and wore them to my birthday dinner.

Thank You BabyJ!!!!

For your hemming tutorial! Just hemmed my new bobbys - and I am excited because by using your guide & fold method I don't feel committed to a single length - if I decide later that I would like to wear these only with high boots I can let it back out - but for now I have perfect jeans for flats.

so... Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

I am going to work on one of my Joeys - it's a little harder, but so what if I mess up - all I have to do is take it out & try again!

I used invisable thread for the whole thing.

Thank you!!! I just got GCWS and they were ultra long so I printed this out and showed it to my mom over Xmas and she was able to hem them perfectly! They look absolutely perfect from the outside, you can't tell at all. I used black thread on the outside because they're a dark gray-wash.

Where do you buy the clear thread? She's going to do my new Pragues as soon as I get some clear or something that matches up better than navy (which is the only blue color she had right now).

So thank you!!!! That's $20/pair saved!

I always have troubles when I take my TRs to have them professionally hemmed. I'm told the hem gets too thick and breaks the needles... So, I decided to do it at home, by hand.
Do you ever have troubles hemming your TR?

Sometimes with my supers I'll have to manually turn the knob on my sewing machine instead of pushing the pedal. The seams are indeed very thick and the needle may break if you don't use caution. I haven't broken a needle in a long time. When you get to the seams make sure you sew above the zig zag stitching instead of directly on it.

Oh, and you can get clear thread at any fabric store

Nola, you don't have to hem your jeans? How tall are you? The only jeans I don't have to hem are some of my TR and a few of my SFAM. Most everything else has to be hemmed and now I do it all by hand using the fold method. It's exhausting.

1-4-08. These are mine now and I took the hem out. You can't even tell that they were hemmed. This method is awesome, especially for resale!

^ just use a seam-ripper and take out what you sewed, then iron em flat again and no one will be able to tell the difference.

I was inspired to do this today and got THREE pairs hemmed! I can't believe I was handhemming all this time.

It works the same. You will need to pin the cuff at the seams to insure they are even, though. Stretch them while you sew but there will be slight bunching--very slight.
