Buyer says shirt she purchased was not the color described .....

Here's a link to my auction:

NWOT $150 L'agence Long Sleeve Deep V Neck T Lavender Size 2/Med The Row | eBay

Here is what she states:

"I received this shirt today and it is gray NOT the slightest bit lavender which I never would have purchased. I would like to return for a full refund including shipping as this is not an accurate description. Please advise asap. Thank you, Trinna"

I gave the color that was stated on the tag when the top was purchased and also provided plenty of pics

May I get your thoughts?

Accept the return. If the buyer files a dispute, they'll win and you'll probably receive bad feedback as well.

^ agree best to just accept a return. You could try to negotiate a refund minus shipping.

In your opinion, what's the best way to explain that I don't feel I should have to refund shipping?

Does it actually say "lavender" anywhere on the item, or only on the tag which is gone?

I'd basically say that the manufacturer defines the color as lavender, though obviously shade is sometimes in the eye of the beholder and somewhat subjective, and as such you will accept it back for a refund, less shipping. Period. Don't explain why you don't think blah blah... just offer what you're prepared to offer.

I sold a Haider Ackermann tank recently that is also stated as Lavender on the tag, but it looked gray to me too, so i listed it saying exactly that

Would just tell her something like: color is subjective, the tag on the shirt does say lavender and that you also feel it is lavender in color - which is why you listed as that color. She is welcome to return it for a refund minus shipping.

IMO It is hard to tell from the photos though what the actual color is but it looks more grey than lavender in the photos. If its in between 2 colors I might put Lavender/Grey or something like that. With some colors it can be tricky and I seem to notice more complaints with specific colors or colors that are in between 2 colors. Whites for example I usually state as white in the title but put the ebay color to ivory and put white/off white in the description. Some people looking for "white" shirts have a very narrow view of what white is and expect bleach white, so if it is dirty white, off white etc they complain with out fail. In the future maybe put both colors or state that the tag says ______ but it looks more like ______. Best to cover all the bases.

Thanks for all your help guys I spoke with Ebay and they said I could escalate the claim or just refund her the cost of the shirt and original shipping & she'll have to pay for the return shipping, I opted for the latter.

Oh well

ah sorry did not realize that she filed a dispute. When they do that, is more difficult to do a partial refund.

Yup, the manufacturer tag said lavender. I have another one of the shirts that does have the tag on it still.

Next time I'll do exactly what you & Treasurehoard suggest and list not just the manufacturer color along with anything else it could be perceived as

No, your right. She hadn't filed a dispute at the time I initially started this thread. She opened one earlier this afternoon

Ugh. That sucks. What a pain in the ass. Yeah, you did the right thing just agreeing to the refund. Never ever escalate your own case... worst idea ever.
