Anyone know if customs/duties/brokerages/taxes are recoverable after a return?

So I bought a jacket on Ebay from the US to Can. Jacket is around 200 shipped with USPS so I had to pay an additional 35 which I was expecting to anyways. However they shipped me the wrong jacket. Dont wanna say scam but...
Anyways the seller is wiling to do a full return but am I out the $35 I paid for brokerage/tax/customs? If I can recover it, do I just simply contact Canada Customs?

TIA

If you still have the original CBSA Postal Import Form, there are instructions on the back for a returned item and requesting a refund. If not, you may be able to write a letter requesting the refund. They require back up documentation though. Here's the address: CBSA Refund Centre, 555 McArthur, C.P. 1454, Montreal, QC H4T 1T4 (1-800-959-2036).

Refunds are not fast either...2 to 4 months.

Thanks Kim, for the concise answer. What kind of back-up documentation? Is the tracking number for the return shipping enough? Thanks

Section B of the Import Form: Reason for Refund Request

Goods returned to sender/exporter: If you have returned your goods to the sender, a credit note or proof of export to show that the goods have left Canada must be included with this claim.

As long as you have the original Import Form, with the tracking number, you should receive your refund (as promptly as they see fit ).

If you don't have your Import Form (it was attached to your original package), I would call them first to see what the process might be.

Good luck. They can be a pain but you will eventually get your money back.
