SNAD - What to do

Hi! I know this has been discussed over and over again...I tried to search for answers myself but I still have some questions. I won a pair of jeans, received them 4 days ago. They are a damaged/defective pair (slits in denim across the thighs in 3 places) that was not mentioned nor pictured in the listing at all. The seller has a 7 day return policy...I've tried to e-mail her a few times since receiving them, about returning them and possibly getting all or some of the return shipping covered since this was not my mistake. I've received no response whatsoever. What should I do, wait a bit more? When would I file a dispute? And when do I escalate a dispute to a claim? Sorry, I've never had to do this before. Any help is appreciated! Thanks so much!!!

Yes, file a dispute and escalate it to a claim!

When did you contact them? It has actually only been 2 business days since you received it, not 4 days. Not everyone works on the weekend. I would give them a bit more time to send a response. If they do not respond then file a dispute.

Yes, you're right, it was Thursday, so it has only been a couple business days. I have no problem giving them a little more time...I want to be fair, I just didn't know what would be the appropriate amount of time to wait. If it comes to it, do I start with just a dispute or do I escalate to a claim right away? Dumb question, but what is the difference between the two? Thanks again!!

A dispute is where you and the Seller try to work it out among yourselves first. It gives the Seller an opportunity to make it right before getting hammered with a claim (which is damaging to a Seller's account). If you still can't come to an agreement, then the 2nd step is a claim. The difference is that ebay decides the outcome for a Claim.

And actually a dispute hurts the Seller's account too, just not as bad as a claim that has to be resolved by ebay. So it's always best to try to work it out before a dispute.

Thanks Amber for the explanation!!

So the seller got back to me and is willing to take the return and refund return shipping. She's uncertain on how to do the refund though. Once she receives the item, I believe there is an "Issue a Refund" link on the details page of the item, correct? But how does she reimburse me for the return shipping...does she just do this separately through paypal through the "Send Money" link, or is she able to add this amount onto the original purchase price when she does the refund through e-bay? Hopefully this is my last question lol! Thanks again!

There is a "refund" link in the paypal payment. She should use this to refund the original payment.

She needs to use the send money tab on paypal for the return shipping.
