Why can feedback still be left for a cancelled transaction??

Buyer misread the auction and wanted to cancel the transaction so I went ahead and did so because I wanted to avoid issues when they received it (so not work paypal claim, etc).... I assumed when you cancelled the transaction, it cancelled it and feedback could not be left. The buyer left feedback just now (luckily it was positive).. I think its crap that they can still leave feedback! I cant imagine leaving someone leaving negative feedback for a transaction that was never completed! Ebay really sucks these days!

Cancelled transactions doesn't prevent from leaving feedback. When a case is closed bec of NPB feedback can't be left.

BUT I just learned sometimes eBay messes up and feedback can still get through for a NPB as well.

Technically you should be able to call and have it removed (NPB only)

Actually I don't believe that is a "mess up." Only NPB's done with the unpaid item assistant make it so the buyer is not allowed to leave a neg:

"How it affects Feedback

If you're using Unpaid Item Assistant, it automatically blocks Feedback from buyers who haven't paid. As soon as it opens a case, the buyer won't be able to leave Feedback for your transaction until the case is closed and you've received payment.

If a buyer doesn't pay, an unpaid item is recorded on their account and any Feedback they left for your transaction before the case was opened is removed. If they haven't left Feedback yet, they won't be able to once the unpaid item is recorded on their account.

However, buyers can leave Feedback in these situations:

Before Unpaid Item Assistant opens the case

If they pay after the case is opened

If they successfully appeal after the case is closed (any previous Feedback left will be reinstated)

If an unpaid item wasn't recorded on their account after the case closed "

Meanwhile without UPI Assistant, they only have to respond to the case and they will have the ability to neg you even if they still don't pay
