What a nightmare...

I recently purchased a pair of jeans from this person who described them as "great condition" and even posted an almost-full picture of the jeans. The only thing I couldn't see were the hems, but I decided to take the seller's word and I bought them. Shipping was $10, and I had to email her to see where the jeans were, because a couple days had passed after the delivery estimate but no jeans.

When I got the jeans, the hems had huge holes and were badly torn up. I told the seller that they were not in great condition as she described and I wanted to return them for a refund. She said okay, and I mailed them back.

Almost a week passes and I don't see any update on my Paypal account so I email her asking if she got them back. No response. Luckily, I had a tracking number so I emailed her again saying she should have gotten them back. I wait almost a week later and I ask again, but this time I tell her if she doesn't respond, I'll have to file a claim. Hocus pocus, I get a response:

"Hi there,
Yes I did receieve the item and I will send you your money in a few days because I am on a trip right now and I don't have access t the Internet only my emails. I will send you your money by friday. What is your PayPal email so I send you the money? Thank you and there is no need to file a claim. Thanks"

So I get a refund today... 9 days after she received the jeans back. And then she emails this to me:

"I accidentally sent you the shipping cost which was $10.00. Please send 10.00 back to me at ********** right away please. Thank you."

... Really? Not only do I have to pay for her shipping but my own too? This is the first time I've ever had such a horrible experience with a seller. In any case, what would you do? Personally, I don't feel like I have any obligation to pay for her shipping, since I'm already paying for mine and she never specified that I pay for shipping both ways.

You can send as a refund. Tell her you want her to issue your money as a refund from the original transaction and not as a payment.

if I am reading this right it was sent as a refund or at least we can't tell for sure if it was sent in a way that fees were taken out.

I would not send the "shipping" cost back either. Seller should be paying for your return shipping in this case. They should have described the item honestly and accurately instead of deceptively.

I would reply and inform her that you are actually expecting your return ship cost to be reimbursed as well as receiving the full refund.

Lol, I definitely like your suggestion best, **fancy**pants**.

I almost feel like giving her an ultimatum... If I refund her shipping, she's getting negative feedback, otherwise I'll leave it alone.

What is the significance of the refund vs. payment anyway? In any case, I got an email from paypal saying I got a full refund. I don't see it reflected on ebay though.

I stumbled upon this article... She probably violated most of them lol

If I were you I'd fight hard to get my initial postage back (obviously!) and the money I spent sending the jeans back to the seller. No question about it.

I would advise against threats. If you are going to neg just do it. No need to threaten the seller.

i love this perfect

sounds like they refunded through your original paypal transaction which is exactly how it should have been done so you were not charged any fees. just leave it alone at this point and under no circumstances should you send the shipping $ back, and yeah, like mike said, do not threaten anything. personally i wouldn't even leave any feedback .. they did refund, but you are out your return shipping... i think lesson learned, get hem pics or ask in the future.. but a lot of people on here would disagree with me and leave neg.. totally up to you what you decide..

glad you got your refund

Looks like I won't receive the money on Friday as promised. The email says I'll receive the money on Sunday. A little irritating. I think I'll just not respond or send anything to the seller and call it a day.

Sorry I should've been a bit more clear. The seller said she would refund me by Friday originally. But I just checked the email and Paypal says I won't receive the money until Sunday. Is that just Paypal, or did she intentionally set the payment date to Sunday?

that is paypal not the seller. Probably transferring money from her bank account.

Here's an update... She sent this to me via eBay:
"I sent you an invoice for $10.00 PLEASE RESPOND ASAP! i need to get my money back. i sent you 75 instead of 65! you need to confirm the payment please do so or else i will send this to collections!"

And email:
"I accidentally payed you $75 instead of $65 when i issued you a refund and now i sent you an invoice for $10.00 please confirm and if you dont i will send this to collections with paypal. I sent you a few notices yesterday and you havent responded. I need you to respond urgently and pay for this invoice right away. Thank you."

What should I do?

Tell her to pound sand. Paypal/eBay would give you a FULL refund including that shipping cost. She cannot send you to "collections". She is wrong in this case.

You should just respond to her e-mail telling her that you want her to reimburse you for your shipping cost that you paid to ship them back and send her a bill.

At this point you should also leave negative feedback.

Yeah... I think so too. I've never dealt with someone so dishonest before. Let's hope this will be the end of it.

Edit: So I've decided since the seller wants to send this to "collections", I will go ahead and invoice her for $6 for the cost of shipping the item back. I realize more drama will ensue. I'll keep you updated.
