item is being held by customs?

hey there.
i have tried looking for threads, though could not find any that can help my situation.

i bought an item on ebay, and it's being shipped here to canada internationally.
i have tracked it online, and it says

"International item arrived in Canada and will be reviewed by Customs"

on average, how long do they hold it there?
and will i be needing to pay any fees?

Hi,

From all the processes I went through they've ranged from a few minutes to a few days. But I've read some stories that have even taken up to weeks, so just be patient. When the customs office isn't busy it should no longer take up to a few days.

Fees usually occur if the product being mail is over a certain price, I'm not too sure of that price though. I've bought jeans from DJPremium & Revolve clothing & I had to pay ranges from 30-40 dollars. I think if it's under 100$ you won't get taxed.

i have purchased countless items internationally without having to pay any sort of taxes...majority over $125.

was i just lucky that none of them were taxed?

You're quite lucky, as I am in Canada too.

But all my items were over at least 170$ & I got taxed.
But things I have bought for around 20-60$, I didn't get taxed.

The item is coming from the States I assume?

The limit before which you may get taxed GST and PST is $60, I believe. That applies to goods made in the US; if it is made in another country (eg. China) your items are subject to duties as well, and the percentage is dependent on the type of good (clothing 18%, accessories 10%). You will not be charged on the shipping, only the value declared.

As for delay in customs, the longest I have had to wait was 5 business days. It also depends on the service used to ship...with Express the max was 3 days and Priority was the 5 days. First Class I have no idea since there is no tracking anyway.

It really depends how long it takes to get through customs. i find customs in Quebec (Ville st Laurent) is fast, while the Ontario one (Mississauga) takes 3 days or so. It eventually gets done though....How much you pay depends on the cost of your item and where it's from (made in US is taxed less than international).

Yes, they will stop at customs regardless of where it's from internationally. Sometimes I've had packages just cruise by (enter customs at 12:50, exit customs at 12:51)

It really all depends. I have a good friend that lives in Canada and there was at least one occasion where a package I sent her took over two months to arrive. Then again, most of the time the package arrives within two weeks. Hope it cleared customs and you have your item already!

So I ordered a set of extensions off ebay. They're coming from china, I ordered it 03/01/10 and it said it had arrived in the Canada post on 03/12/10. I live in Newfoundland in Canada, and my extensions came to 41$, s&h included. I was wondering if anyone had any idea how long it could take and if there'd be any taxes?

Anybody know how you actually pay for customs though because my item has been in Ville-St laurent for about three days now and it never told me to pay or not

When it is released and ready to be picked up at the local post office you will receive a notice

No, it means exactly that... released FROM CUSTOMS. To go to the local delivery post office
