| | | Mall changes coming, let's discuss! There are some issues that we tend to see arising in the mall frequently, and we have discussed quite a bit over the last month in the mod area. I would like some input on the following:
I think everyone has noticed that there has been a rash of people who are using the site only as a place to sell or to advertise their eBay auctions or websites. That is, people who make posts only in the mall, and do not contribute to the rest of the community at all. That being said, while post-count alone is not a solution (because we need more spam posts like a hole in the head!), do we want to move to make access to selling in the mall considerably more selective, as in applications sent to the admin/mod, and selling rights granted solely at their discretion, taking into account site usage & likely eBay feedback. While nothing is an absolute solution to shady sellers in the mall, and ultimately it is still the buyer's responsibility to protect themself with a credit card, research a seller, etc, perhaps having to "apply" to sell will weed out things like the JMC thing, and sellers just here to hawk sales elsewhere and not participate in the community.
2nd - In the coming days we will be implementing a new function to the mall to eliminate incomplete posts. After you click 'post', your post will not automatically appear. All posts will be placed in queue and need to be approved by a mod before they pop up on the site. If items are missing from your post (110% money back guarantee, eBay feedback, pictures, measurements, etc), your post will simply never appear. Anyway, as we get this rolling, there may be some weirdness in the mall, hopefully not, but maybe, so just be aware |

| | | The queue idea seems pretty solid, but will only work if there is a team working on it. as the site grows, more and more people are going to want to sell items in the mall calling for a higher demand on those who "safeguard" the mall. So long as someone is availble enough to monitor the postings in good time and we expand with the demand placed on the mall, I see no problem with it.

| | | I agree. I feel more comfortable buying/selling to approved people! No one wants to get scammed.

Between about a dozen of us, we should be ok for a while still. |

| | | Sounds like a good idea...though we must watch out for people who just post crap to make their posts and activity look bigger than it actually is on this forum. I may not have a lot of posts compared to other members but I think when I do contribute I have something worthwhile to say. But then again I only tend to buy/sell/trade from/to people that I've know for ages and ages.
Overall though I agree with it |

| | The Purse Forum does the application system for their mall and it's worked out wonderfully for them so hopefully the same will hold true for AF Would buyers be required to submit applications to buy off AF or is the application process only for sellers?

| | | ^ That's awesome then =) PF makes buyers and sellers both apply and at first it really cut down on sales since there weren't enough people in the marketplace to buy stuff.

Every mod/admin can approve threads, so lets say (of the 15 of us......hope Im not leaving anyone out) we each do 4 threads a day.....thats 60 mall threads and I dont even think our mall gets that kind of action yet. |

| | | ^^Good question.
I do think this is an outstanding idea. This will cut down on all the lurkers who want to avoid ebay fees and probably keep the potential of fakes to zero!
