R&R Jeans Hemmed too Short - Can it be Fixed?

I just got my jeans back from Nordstroms today after having them hemmed, but they are about 1/2" too short! They are about 3/4" off the ground and I like them 1/4" off the ground or less. And this is when I'm wearing my Converse which are the flattest shoes I have! I had them same the original material so is there any way that the original material can be reattached to make the jeans 1/2" longer? When I was talking to the tailor lady she she that they would give me back the material that they cut off the jeans just in case I wanted to have it sewn back on, but can they do that to make them 1/2" longer?

I'm so mad because they were 3 out of 4 pairs of R&R that I own and I feel uncomfortable wearing them that short! I would rather have the hems drag a little then have them too short. Thanks! Any help is appreciated.

Nordstrom usually has awesome customer service. Bring it back to them and tell them what the problem is. If they can't fix it, they might replace it.

Their stuffup, their problem IMO. I'd be asking for a full refund on your jeans or replace them with new ones.

Thanks for the help! The Nordstroms I got them hemmed at is the closest Nordstroms and it's 45min away each way. I will try to take them back tonight but I get off at 630pm. I will post after I go

No I didn't ask for a specific inseam. I wasn't wearing the correct shoes when I went (dumb I know, but I'm 5'8" and I have never had to have a pair of pants hemmed) and so the lady just had me take off my shoes and stand on the ground and she just kind of folded the jeans under from there. I then was worried that they would be too short so I was asking if once they were hemmed if they could be let out and made longer and she said she would save the material that they cut off so that if they were too short then I could have it sewn back on? I didn't think they could do that but I trusted her (otherwise I would just have brought them back with the correct shoes) so I'm going to try to go in tonight and tell them my story. :/

lady is an idiot asking you to take of your shoes to get them hemmed. that IS NOT how you're suppose to do it. she should be fired. you should go back and complain until you get replacements

Take your shoes off!? You're supposed to wear the shoes you're likely to wear the jeans with to get it hemmed!

I'd be raising particular hell until I got my jeans replaced.

Of course, causing a big fuss could backfire and they might just have security escort you out.

Is there something like Consumer Affairs that you could threaten them with? Here in Australia we have the Competition and Consumer Commission, as well as the Trade Practices Act to protect people from dodgy things like this.

Demand your money back. They've left you with clothing you can't wear thanks to their own incompetence. I big company like that shouldn't be able to get away with dodgy customer service, and I'm with ntegra on this, that woman should be fired.

You've just said that you've had an hour and a half round trip to get screwed over, and you've probably got another trip back there before you get this sorted out.

I'd be firing off an angry email to the GM of Nordstrom if it was me!

man some of you guys are pretty harsh. maybe the tailor was new or wasn't thinking clearly at the time because she had been really busy all day. we all have off days.

at any rate, did she make a new 1/4" hem? if so, it can easily be let out and reattached with the original to give you 1/2" inch. the denim that was rolled up should be just under 1/2" (1/4"x2) and the addition of the original hem will be enough to top it up.

if you're going to work at a major department store in the alterations dept you need to know what you're doing. i've never had any tailor ever tell me to take off my shoes

Sorry to hear about your jeans. I hope they can be saved. My friend just got her jeans hemmed by a Nordstrom too, and on her hems they tacked up an extra 1/2 of fabric on both sides so that it can be let down nearly a full inch if nessasary.

However, her story was kind of the opposite of yours. She tried them on with heels, and then the lady folded them and the jeans were touching the ground. My friend asked for them to be hemmed shorter, so she folded the jeans up a bit more. Then my friend asked to go even shorter - she's kind of crazy and doesn't mind when jeans end way off the ground in heels, because she wanted to be able to wear them with short heels and flats too.

Anyway when she got the jeans back, they were once again touching the ground, in her heels - too long for her liking, but I told her they looked best that way (it did).

Take them back to Nordstrom and get your money back!

BTW I'm in the NorCal too, which Nordies did you buy them at?
