Angry CHI Flat Iron

I am so upset I used to be a huge fan of Chi flat irons. I just loved the way they transformed my wavy, frizzy hair into sleek, straight hair and no one could tell I had straightened it that morning.

Then things started to go downhill. My first one died when I'd had it for almost two years, and I bought another one. I bought it last August, and in October, it would not heat up unless the plates were closed (?). So odd. I sent it back and they sent me a new one within a week and I was very impressed with the service.

A few days ago, I was straightening my bangs with my Chi and noticed that my hair smelled very, very much like it was burning. About a minute later, I realized that the flat iron wasn't even hot anymore. Well, my bangs got the shit fried out of them. Thank goodness I used a heat protectant but even that couldn't fully save them. But they look and feel like steel wool. It is disgusting and of course, I just got a lot cut off of my bangs and can't really get a trim for a few more weeks. So now I have crispy, fried bangs.

I just went out and bought a GHD. Not getting near another Chi again.

Wow. Did the Chi have an adjustable temp setting? It sounds like it just blew up and fried your bangs in the process!

Whoa! This makes me not want to use Chis anymore.

This is the one I'm using and I haven't had any problems yet:
BaByliss PRO Nano Titanium 1 1/4" Straightening Iron | Folica.com

Nope, no adjustable temp setting. Of course, a stylist I work with was chastising me the other day for not having a flat iron with adjustable heat. I should have listened to her and ditched it then.

That same stylist told me to get a Babyliss, and I've heard other great things about them! That was my second choice but the GHD has a 2 year warranty and I can bring it back to the store where I bought it/not have to send it off for a new one if it dies, so that's why I splurged on the GHD.

Thanks to the link you provided I looked around a bit and purchased this.

Solia 1875W Thermal Ionic Hair Dryer | Folica.com

I really needed a new dryer and I was able to find a discount code that is $25 off a purchase of $75 or more. I got the dryer, 2 year warranty, and a paddle brush for $59.00! Thank you!

BTW the code was HAPPYHAIR. Also, the all flat irons were like 20% off but I think that expired.

I had almost the thing thing happen with my Chi (and a Paul Mitchell) one! One day it made this loud spark sound and then fried the crap out of the piece of hair I was doing!

I also have a BabyBliss one and I love it! Plus, I've seen them at TJMaxx for $20-35.

this is the reason why I got rid of my CHI. I used it twice and each time my hair felt so fried and smelled like it was burning but I did get the one w/out the adjustable temp.. for what it was worth though ($70-80) it should have been WAY WAY better than that, it was even worse than drugstore brands.
