Darn IT!!

My oldest daughter got glasses two years ago, and now my second and third daughters also need glasses.

I'm the only freak on both sides of my husband's and my side that does NOT need corrective lenses. Why couldn't my girls get my eyesight???

Any way to reverse this? Probably not, it's genetic, isn't it?

Between glasses and braces...we're screwed.

Oh no that totally sucks. It's not that bad when they're a little older but a real pain when they're kids. Get ready for broken glasses I'm so sorry.

LOL, I wish it could be reversed without surgery or corrective lenses! Unfortunately, no That sucks that they need them so young. I didn't get my glasses until I was 14.

ouch, that sucks did they say what eye problem was causing it? I know a lot of people with astigmatism that will be eligible for lasik in a few years (when their vision stops changing). oddly enough, nobody in my family has ever needed glasses until old age. my mom has reading glasses due to side effects from some medications and my dad is starting to have trouble seeing but both are in their 50s.

I got glasses when I was in the 4th grade....but contacts in the 5th (I am nearsighted). My brother got glasses when he was like 3 (he is farsighted). His eyes self corrected when he was around 20. I would have never believed it was possible, but my mom is an opthalmic tech....so yeah, it's possible.

However, I don't think it is possible (or as likely) to self correct nearsightedness.

Dang Shi, you are lucky...though the chances of you needing glasses at some point in your life is pretty good (even if for reading purposes only).

I totally sympathize with you! My oldest needed glasses when he was 5, now that he is old enough to have contacts he doesn't want them. He said he wouldn't look like himself! We were told we should be checking all the rest of the kiddos from 6 months on. At 4 my other son needed glasses too. We are waiting to see if my youngests vision gets better with age...I'm not counting on it! I know that feeling of being overwhelmed! Its the like WTF really? When does the financial brake get here? We got the Nike frames that are bendable (of course the younger one doesn't know that)!

I haven't had the two younger ones tested this year; my 4-year-old was OK last year, and the 2-year-old is too young in my doctor's opinion.

It seems like their vision starts getting bad around kindergarten-age.

Sorry to hear about that Shi, I couldn't imagine the financial strain of glasses and braces, let alone for (upto) six. My daughter, who's not quite 2 yet, will most likely need glasses at three. She has (insert name here) condition where one pupil is larger than the other. They were concerned it would turn into a lazy eye, but so far so good. She is also slightly near sighted but too young to get glasses yet. You are fortunate to that you don't have to have them. I don't think there is a soul in my family with the exception of my two younger sisters that don't wear glasses. I wish I could do contacts but with both nearsightedness and astigmatism, they don't work. Good luck!!!

^I am nearsighted and have astigmatism and I can wear contacts no problem. Maybe try one of the newer brands? They have come along way from what they used to be.

Your vision never stops changing. That's why there is a fraction of those who received LASIK, say 5 years ago, are experiencing vision issues. Tge only way I've seen children "correct" their myopia or other vision issues is through eye patches! I think there may be other options but I havent asked.

My father is a Master Optometrist/Optician he's a leader in his field (writes for 20/20 vision magazine, etc)...if you have any questions, PM me and give you his name (so you can google it to know Im not BS'ing!) and send him an email on any questions you have .

I'm with Meg.....I have astigmatisms in both eyes too but wear toric lenses. They work fine. They are just more expensive.....like double

Vis...I'm also with you......
Kids=sports, braces, violin & guitar lessons, & glasses.... expensive.

My son wants to go to the school of rock too so that'll take another $300/month.

It is technically an option, but my opt. said that I can only correct one problem or the other w/ contacts. In other words, optimal sight can only be gained w/ wearing glasses. The main reason I wanted them was b/c my toddler keeps grabbing my glasses, which are plastic framed, and it drives me nuts having to get them readjusted all the time. I'll have to ask around though.

Actually we know today that bad eyesight isn't caused by that.

With my contacts (O2 Optics- fairly new to the market) I see 20/15. There are also custom torics by Ciba to be a perfect fit (though they are very expensive). Ask your opt. for a sample pair of torics.

I might just have to try the Cibas. I'm due for a new box anyways. The last brand I used was terrible. Frequency I think. They wore out quicker than all the others I have tried.

They don't sell Ciba through 1-800-contacts though.

Congrats Bluefeevah on your 1000 posts!

this is so OT but i went to the optometrists once, and my doctor wasn't there so some other doctor checked me....somehow the convo about where i bought contacts was brought up and i told him usually 1800contacts and he gave me this huge lecture about how the site is "illegal", which i believe it isn't, and pretty much yelled at me in front of everyone in the room (receptionists, patients...) for buying contacts from them (i assume it all revolves around money) ...but nonetheless i was so embarrassed

^omg, that would PISS me off! They are 100% ligitimate! They are significantly cheaper then buying them in the Dr's office. What a loser for yelling at you like that.

I actually order mine through visiondirect.com, which is partnered with drugstore.com

Onelove- Ciba O2 optics are the best contacts I've ever used. If you tend to get bloodshot eyes, these are great b/c they have the highest amount of O2 (Oxygen) in them. My eyes were noticably better after switching to these. Ans the toric is great, I don't even feel them.
