This.Sucks.Butt

So now I have a frickin' UTI. I knew something wasn't right this morning, and I went and had a dip-test done. Leukocytes. Great. 26 weeks pregnant; my first UTI in pregnancy EVER. 5 days on Keflex, 4 pills a day; yeah me.

Thing is, I don't know how I got it, so how do I not get it again? *** sigh ***

Lots of cranberry juice?

I hope it doesn't give you any complications beyond v. short-lived discomfort..

Yeah, I will definitely be adding cranberry juice to my menu; unsweetened. Blech. Oh well, I guess I need it.

Oh, Shi, that sucks! I would think that as much as preggo women have to pee, there has to be some risk of a UTI. I am on a strong antibiotic right now for a sinus infection and I am NOT happy. I hope you feel better soon!

Oh yeah, good point. It's not good to have the sweetened or "cocktail" cranberry juices...something about sugar making a good environment for bacteria...

There are also capsules/tablets available, but you'd have to find out which ones are more effective.

I've always been prone to UTI's and drinking Cranberry 100% juice and LOTS of water is great. It sucks during pregnancy! Sorry!

I never had one in my pregnancy. Just make sure you don't hold it for too long and urinate after sex. My doctor says that most UTI's are caused by sex

Aww Shireen, I'm so sorry- I used to get UTIs a lot and they are really just the worst pain ever Everyone else has already suggested cranberry juice, but also try probiotics, and I used to even put a heating pad on my stomach area which helped me feel better. If you are in a ton of pain there are these pills that you can take that realllly work for the pain, but they make you pee orange- I forget what they're called, but check w/a doc first for any preggo impacts. I'll be sending good bladder thoughts your way

OH and p.s. I HATE cranberry juice because of all the utis I've had- it's like medicine to me..but you can get cranberry pills at health food stores (I've seen them at Whole Foods), so those might help, though I'm guessing it's best to have the juice actually pass through your system...boo

Ewww, that stinks, I'm sorry! I hope that it goes away quickly and this is the only one you have to deal with.
Aside from that, did you ever manage to get your rings off?

Nope; I tried everything. That ring will not budge over my knuckle. The ring doesn't hurt, but I'm afraid of summer swelling.

About the UTI, I do feel a little better today, but I'm waiting for the antibiotic to kick in. I'm taking Tylenol to ease the discomfort. This really bites. I think I have had this for several days, because now that I'm feeling a little better, I realize how miserable I was! UTI's feel way different in pregnancy than otherwise.

My grandma developed arthritis/swelling in her left ring finger, and was convinced she'd have to have the ring cut off, after wearing it for almost 60 years. She went into the jeweler's one day, and they used some sort of ointment and managed to get it off w/o cutting.
