Potty training blues

Anna will be 3 on 5/13. We have been working on PTing for MONTHS now. I guess Owen spoiled me, we started PTing when he was 2 yrs, 8 mo, and we only had one hiccup with him, then he was good to go. Not so with #2. She did so well for a few weeks, and now she's having accidents ALL.THE.TIME. Yesterday, I think she peed in her underwear more than she did the toilet. I had to change her pants four times. Now, it's not yet 1:00, and she's had two accidents. I finally gave up and put a diaper on her. Probably shouldn't but I had to wash her clothes last night, and she's already peed in 2 of her 5 pairs of jeans I refuse to wash them every day. I've tried telling her that Tinker Bell/Dora/My Little Pony/etc don't like to be peed on, but it has no effect Suggestions?

Sorry I have nothing really helpful to add.

I am going through the same thing with my daughter. She will hold her pee in when she wears her panties and then pees/poops when she gets her naptime/ bedtime diaper. Yesterday I even made her nap with panties on. She did not pee once during the day. I finally broke down and gave her a diaper cause I felt bad she had not peed all day. She just peed twice in her clothes.

I would, like you, love to hear some advice. Sorry did not mean to TC.

I learned the hard way that one day a the lights finally turn on and they are completely ready to be potty trained. I remember getting so frustrated with a couple of them because they'd been waking up dry for months..and I do mean MONTHS, only to have them resist using the potty. I was in tears, and they didn't care...and it made me feel nuts. That's when I realized I was potty training myself to take her to the potty, NOT potty training HER.

It's really like something clicks and they just go for it and never look back.

Overall, the easiest ones for me were the ones who basically trained themselves. Both were really young (like barely 2), but the ones I tried to train??? Forget about it. Stubborn little buggers.

I always go back to the same thing..have you tried a rewards program for her? Every morning/afternoon she can go without pee'ing her pants, she can out a sticker n a chart and set a goal for her so she gets rewarded?

I have had that work with other issues with my girls. But i lucked out with them both. Ithink i am in for it with Fletch though. he is already stubborn and he just turned 1

Shi, when she does well, she does WELL. I don't have to ask her if she needs to go, she'll just tell me. That's probably why it's so frustrating now
Alex, we did an m&m for peeing, and something bigger (like a Hershey's miniature, or Hershey's Kiss) for pooping. We still do the treat for pooping (only b/c she asks every time!), maybe I should re-start the m&ms.

Good luck! I'm there with T, as well. I've kind of given up for a bit, and just put him back in diapers, and will try again in a week or two. He'll use the potty if I put him there (every 15-30 mins), but he was still having accidents occasionally, even right after he was on the toilet. Didn't help that DH would not take him to the bathroom when he was watching him the last 2 weekends, while I was napping/cleaning/etc. He'd just leave him in a pullup

I agree with the it "will just click one day." For me, I used the Gerber training pants which are a thicker panty. Pull-Ups didn't work for us. We also did a sticker reward chart. Don't make a big deal about accidents either. Actually my DD just had 2 pee accidents at preschool in the last week and she's been potty trained for over a year now. I think it's because when she's playing, she forgets to go and runs in when it's too late. I just say it's ok, accidents happen, but let's try to make it to the bathroom sooner next time

^ I *thought* there were thick undies for training, where did you find them? I had checked at local stores with D was training, and never found them. T really hates being wet, but doesn't mind wet pullups, so they don't work as well for us.

ETA: found them online. Did you put her in the same size as she was wearing currently? T wears 2-3s in everything, but by the weight chart, he falls into the 18mo category.

I got mine at Target. Yes, I used the same size that she was. I suggest buying a couple packs.

This might sound silly, but maybe try one of those singing potties? They have some really cute ones that have tunes, a little "flush" handle that makes a "woosh" noise, and a TP roll. We had one for Junior and combined with a reward system, it worked really well. He couldn't wait to sit on it. After awhile he even started taking books with him.

Good luck!

April, how are things going? Sophie did so well with potty training, that I'm actually expecting Ruby to have issues. I figured I got my free pass with the first one!!

Jess, so far, so good today. I wound up keeping her in a diaper the rest of yesterday. Hubby said something this morning that I shouldn't do that (yes, I know this, mixed messages and all). I politely told him that he had NO idea of my level of frustration at that point in time. He's been out of town for work since Wednesday morning, so I've been home by myself with the kids since then. Plus one before and after school, the neighbor girl Luckily for him, he didn't push it
Thanks for asking I'll keep my fingers crossed that Ruby will be as easy to PT as Sophie

april, our girls are similar ages. mine will be three in june. she gets it sometimes.. she CAN use the potty. but it's a control thing for her, too. we have used rewards, etc and tried videos, books, and the like. i know she COULD do it if she really wanted to but i dont think she is wanting to.. and with my older two, they trained closer to three or just after three and there were less accidents bc they were ready AND older (i guess). i am wishing more than anything that lucy was ready to do it 100% of time and not just half ass here and there bc i know she can.. but i think for her, and for my others, it's all about when THEY want to, ya know? wtg on the progress today, though!! that is wonderful!! i just wanted to tell you that i feel your pain

I just bought a couple packs of the training pants, and one pack of the waterproof covers, maybe for when he's watching tv on the couch... They didn't carry the 18mo, and the 2ts are really big (a lot bigger than the 2/3t undies the boys have), so I hope they fit okay.

IIRC the 2T size shrinks after washing. They fit my daughter fine when she was 24 pounds. I would throw them in the wash first. Hope that helps.

Yay! That's good to know, they're in the washer now! I had read somebody comment (amazon maybe?) that they didn't shrink, so I was worried. Maybe that was the carters training pants I was looking at a LOT of them last night

Stacy, I think they'll be fine. Anna is TINY, and she fits the 2T. I even had some 3Ts from when Owen was PTing, and would put those on her. I mean, they were big on her, but still served their purpose, KWIM? Did you get the Gerber ones?
I just gave ours to my SIL yesterday, I have a niece that's about 3 1/2 months younger than Anna, and they are going to start PTing soon.
Oh, and she seems to be doing fine now, go figure. She had one small accident yesterday, only had to change her underwear, her pants were dry. We were at my BIL & SIL's all day, with 3 of her cousins there, and she didn't get TOO distracted.

The gerber pants fit perfectly! I put a waterproof cover on him... and he had a HUGE puffy bum... and was not impressed at all. They looked like bloomers, I lol'd. A lot. So, waterproof covers aren't an option Timer set.

^How's it going? I never used the waterproof covers. K transitioned from the Gerber pants to regular panties pretty quickly.

^ Terrible. The first day in the 'undies', he pooped in them like 3 mins after getting off the toilet. He said he didn't have to go when we were in the bathroom, and then he came in from the playroom all smelly. So... I'm switching back to pullups in the morning, and undies afterward... b/c cleaning up wet clothes is much better than dirty ones

We actually didn't do anything today, my parents came to visit, and we went to a mini zoo thing.

my sister has been potty training my nephew for a few months now.
It's at the point where he knows he has to use the bathroom, he just doesn't say anything. Well half the time he does & half the time he doesn't.
Like a few minutes ago he was really quiet. I was talking to him, and he was ignoring me. Turns out he was pooping. <sigh>

My daughter is 26 months old now, and my mother keeps telling me that I NEED to start potty training her asap.. The thing is, she is SO STUBBORN.. I mean seriously stubborn.. It doesn't help that my MIL lets my DD do ANYTHING she wants (yes, she even gives her stuff she can get hurt with- she can't BARE to be "mean" in my daughter's eyes- don't get me started on my issues with her.. I could write a book HAHA).. anyway, Kaylee is seriously getting MEAN.. she's stubborn.. she never did drink from a sippy cup. I tried and TRIED to teach her to tilt the cup UP to get more once she took a few sips.. she would literally take the cup and hold it above her head LOL! When I'd try to actually help her and SHOW her, she would scream, throw a fit, and throw her cup and have nothing else to do with it. Thank God she picked up on drinking from a straw fast, so I just took her straight from a bottle to a cup with a straw when she was about 1 year old.

When did you guys actually START potty training your children? I try to tell my mother that Kaylee is still very young, and yes some kids are potty trained at her age, but she's barely 2.. I'd like to think I have a LITTLE more time to hopefully get her out of her stubbornness LOL!
