**Update* Thoughts on Baby Jogger brand stroller

Hi Ladies! I am in need of some advice/expertise! I found a Baby Jogger City Elite on CL. I've spoken with the seller (who is nice btw). It was purchased by her in 2008 for $400 + $150 in accessories (all brand new). She has used it for her 2 kids. I have done a little research online and this stroller seems great, has glowing reviews and will fit our needs.

She's asking $250 for the stroller/accessories.

I know BJs retail high but I would like opinions on if that's a fair price or not. Is the quality that good and worth it? She sent me pics and says everything is in proper working order. In the pics the seat is a stained a bit and the foot rest area looks dirty. She did disclose both things to me.

So bottom line is the price fair? My husband thinks I'm nuts to want to pay that much for a used 3 year old stroller since you can buy a cheaper brand for well under that price and it'd be brand new :idk

Thanks for any help/opinions/advice!!

to me, that seems high for a 3 year old used stroller What are the accessories, and are they of that much value to you?

edit: I wish I could be more helpful with performance reviews, but it's been too cold/snowy/rainy/overall crappy since baby James' birth to take walks, so I haven't put them to much use yet . I have a BOB Revolution (baby shower gift), and bought a used Baby Trend Expedition double jogger at a yard sale for $35 for the days I have James and my 22 month old nephew.

I think the price seems high too but that is the lowest she's willing to go.

We would use all the accessories, included are the infant seat adapter, belly bar and the belly bar console.

I'm so torn. I'm NOT spending $400 on a new stroller, since this will be the only child who will use this. If we were going to have more kids I could maybe justify the price but since we're done I really can't do it.

Have you used any joggers before? are you set on the Baby Jogger brand? I definitely understand not wanting to spend $400 since it will only be used for one child, I am just trying to think of what your other options could be.....

I love my baby jogger, it was a bit over $400 new with the 'parent' console, but we didn't add any other accessories. I know the other ones were pretty spendy. Yes a cheaper stroller wouldn't cost as much, but even after two years of frequent use, my baby jogger is better than either of the cheapies I've had. You'd probably want to do a test run on it, make sure it pushes/turns well still, but that seems like an okay price to me.

If you buy a new one you can always sell it afterwards for a decent amount I just prefer not buying used car seats or strollers.

^ I agree.

Since it's CL, can you go see it in person?

I would buy new, if I were you, and then resell.
Of course, it depends how much you think you will actually use it.

^^ The buyer sent me a bunch of good photos. I could go see it in person but it's about 1.5 hrs away. If I decide to buy it I'll definitely try it out first.

If I bought new, I'm concerned that I wouldn't be able to resell for a decent price. Obviously I don't expect to get what I paid, but I wouldn't want to sell it for $100 either. I don't live in a metro area where higher end stuff is wildly popular so I have mixed feelings about resale on this.

I also don't usually buy used strollers and never buy used carseats so I'm kinda new at the used stroller thing

Thanks for all the input!

I've actually been thinking about selling mine in the next year, b/c D. IS 5 1/2 and doesn't really need pushed. At the same time, he's little, and both of them combined are still like 40lbs below the max. I was trying to find a double stroller with the stand on the back, or a single stroller with a double stand on the back... but the only double w/stand I've found so far has terrible reviews. I think if/when I sell mine, I'd try to get at least $200 for it... but

I'd be okay with reselling if I could get about 1/2 of what I paid if I bought one at full retail. However people where I live (in general) are cheap and they wouldn't pay that for it. When I sold my Graco Quattro Tour travel system stoller (from DD) I paid about $300. It was in mint condition, only used a few years w/ 1 child and people wanted me to sell it to them for like $30 The best I could get was $75 (ugh) and that included stroller, 2 bases, and infant carrier.

I guess I'm just worrier that I wouldn't be able to resell a new one for a decent price... and I'm concerned I wouldn't use it as much as I think I will...

The more I think about it the used one is a good price (if the condition is as good as seller stated). I think I might just get that one...

If it test drives well (I'd take it for a full on jog around the block if she'll let you), then I think it's a fair price. And I would definitely recommend getting a better quality used stroller than a new cheaper stroller. You definitely get what you pay for with joggers....
I hope it works out for you!

yeah, I guess it sounds like it is a fair price for the one you are looking at considering Stacy's input as someone who has one...and if it's still in good condition when you're done with it (or if you don't end up using it as much as you'd like to) you can always re-sell again!

I have the Baby Jogger Summit XC jogging stroller and it is hands down the best investment I have made as far as baby gear. The brand is pricey, but they are a DREAM. They offer one hand folding, easy set up, adjustable everything. If I had been able to find the stroller I was looking for used, I would have gone that route to save a little money.

I wouldn't buy a used car seat, but stroller, definitely...so long as it passed my testing. You will definitely want to push it around, remove the wheels and replace them, fold and unfold, I'm a little nuts, so I run my hand over joints and structure to make sure there isn't anything bent or broken, check for loose or missing screws and bolts. If everything checks out the price of the stroller, while a little on the high side at least it comes with some accessories (which for baby jogger are all pricey) I think it would absolutely be worth the investment. And, you can still try to resell it after you are finished using it. You will NOT regret your decision on a Baby Jogger.

** UPDATE***

So, I bit the bullet and bought a NEW one from Amazon. It's the City Elite.

Hubby didn't want to spend that much on a USED stroller (that was stained and the tires looked a bit worn) so we just decided just to buy a new one for a couple hundred more... Plus the newer model has some features we liked that weren't on the used one. We figured since it can hold 75lbs we'd use if for several years and then we can re-sell (hopefully for a decent price!)

I guess I'm just picky as hell and for $250 I wanted it to be pristine, not dirty and worn...

I saw the City mini last night at Babies R Us when I went in to pick up some new stroller accessories and I tried out the folding mechanism - OMG it's TDF!!! I should have it already on Friday!! So excited!!

Congrats! I'm sure you will LOVE LOVE LOVE it! Is not the folding mechanism on them aaahhhhhmazing!? I'm so in love with mine I barely use my smaller umbrella-esque stroller. You'll get lots of use out of it and maybe make additional little stops just to have an excuse to whip it out LOL I also love how simple it is to remove the wheels, if need be. Can't say that I have had too many reasons to take them off, but if ever the need arises I know it will be extra simple. I did find some pretty cool add-on stuff for a stroller/carseat that you may like and they fit nicely on the baby joggers.

There is a little grippy snack holder/cup holder I think made by fisher price that is dreamy. I just got one since the BJs don't come with them and the attachment from BJ is a little pricey.

And the Mommy Clip or whatever they call it. It's a GIANT clip (like used for climbing...only not LOL) and you just snap it onto the stroller handle, hook on your purse/diaper bag/shopping bags and go. Pretty sweet.

I'm pretty excited!! More than I thought I'd be!! Last night when we were at Babies R Us, we tried the City Mini's folding mechanism and I think I actually squealed out loud It's so AWESOME!! I had only saw it on youtube before that. Hubby thought it was great too. He also liked how easy the wheels came off! We didn't end up getting the BJ caddy as (like you said) it was pricey. I got a caddy from Sunshine Kids that just velcros on the push bar. It was $10! We also did get that gianormous hook (Mommy Hook)!

I did get the BJ car seat adapter with the stroller. I had it in my car and Amazon kept bouncing the price all over. Well patience paid off and it was almost $19 off when I bought it!!

I feel dumb being so ridiculously excited about this!! I can't wait until Friday!! Just in time too, Sophie starts soccer next week = driving through a lot of grass!!
