| | | ovulating/getting pg w/a girl Ok... Well, DH and I still aren't sure if we're done. Every time I'm completely convinced that he NEEDS to get snipped, he asks me if I'm sure... and then I don't know any more. I'm currently in one of those "not sure" times.
If we have another (I want to get pg later this year IF we decide to have another), I REALLY want it to be a girl, so I've been casually researching things that will improve chances of getting pregnant with a girl.
The ovulating part is what's really throwing me. Is it possible to figure out when I ovulate, if my period isn't exactly regular? Right now, it's the most regular it's been ever, but it can still vary by a week.
The last time I got preg, was the day after my period ended... so I assumed it was before I was ovulating (and obviously it ended up being a boy).
Also, what type of tester have you discovered works the best for charting ovulation? I was reading about a couple different types, one being a saliva test.
Thanks!

| | Um, not to be gross, but I can tell just by discharge
My pd is pretty regular, but I really haven't been charting all that much since I got my IUD, and I can tell just by that when I'm ovulating. The consistency and amount change when you're ovulating.
ETA: buuuut all that being said, some people don't have the exact same cycles...and it sounds like maybe you might have ovulated without even those signs. Shi will probably be able to help. Sorry if I didn't!
EEEK! I'm so excited about the prospect of you getting pregnant! So exciting!

| | I've definitely noticed a difference in the consistency, but everything I've read says to 'do the deed' a few days before you ovulate, so the boy sperm die, and the girls make it home when you ovulate, but I don't want to think it's a few days in advance, and then ovulate right afterward. I've already figured out that his swimmers prefer the boys.

Woohoo btw! | Truf. Additionally, it's entirely dependent upon the makeup of the sperm that reaches your egg. There's really nothing you can do to make sure that a girl sperm gets there first.

honestly you're going to hear and read all sorts of myths and wives' tales. the truth is that it's 50/50 most of the time. there are circumstances which a woman's pH balance plays a role in the boy/girl game, but you'll never know unless you're tested.
IMO and this is only IMO, although it's natural to want either a girl or a boy (I'm odd and truly didn't care), it's best to decide that you want a baby PERIOD and go from there; don't set yourself up for disappointment should you have another baby and it's a boy.
I've seen it happen repeatedly.
and this is just from what I've read here Stacy...please please please be sure you and DH are truly ready for another baby. in your posts I sense there have been some really rough times, and having another baby will definitely add to the stress...be sure your relationship can handle it.

| | My hubby's aunt wants a boy, and last time I saw her she had some book with her that supposedly tells you how to get the gender you want. When I told her it's 50/50 and dismissed her temperature readings and so on she seemed not to want to believe me. I guess if it makes the process more fun then why not I would really like a boy this time, but ya know what, I will be ecstatic with a healthy baby no matter what. K wants a sister, so either way is a win. My periods are irregular, so I can't predict ovulation. Once we decided we just let nature take it's course

I'm only saying this because I care. | i know absolutely nothing about this but I have to say I agree with that ^ too
i'm not sure how things have been going lately but I do care and worry about your happiness too
i would say not to have a baby just to try to get a girl, but because it's something you and your hubby can manage and truly want to do out of love. besides, you are still so young, you have many many more years left to have babies... does it really matter if the boys would be a few more years older than a new baby if you waited? i duno, that's just my 2 cents with the best intentions

| | I agree with others Stacy in that please be sure you and DH are ready for the lifetime committment of bringing another child into the world, whether a girl or boy Deep down inside I guess I was kinda secretly hoping our 3rd would be a girl, but managed to put those thoughts to rest because 1) I did not want to set myself up for disappointment when it was time for the ultrasound and 2) I really just wanted to bring another healthy baby into this world. I guess the only thing I can add here from my experience is that the spread of almost 4 years between the second and third child REALLY helped me. Because they were older, and a little more self sufficient, I didn't feel like I was stretched as thin between them and taking care of a newborn
Sorry for the novel, but I do wish the best for you! |

and like others have expressed, you do seem to have a lot on your plate and your boys are so young.. you also still want to finish school too, right? If that's the case, you're going to have even less time if you have another baby I would think.. and like Dana said, you're still so young Stacy, you have plenty of time!

I also agree with everyone else. Just be sure that a baby is really what you want and not just focus on having a girl. JMHO You are still so young and should really think about it before going into such a big commitment.
I have 2 boys and 3 girls with a big age gap. My oldest is 20 and my youngest is 4. And I do not regret that big age gap. It did make things a lot easier for me to handle. I will say it is a busy household but I all my kids.

Shi - I You. | Thanks everyone for the input. We're definitely not deciding anything yet... we just keep thinking about it since we were going to have him get fixed last year, and it never happened. Some days I'm 100% content with our family size, and other days I think it would be nice to have one more (girl OR boy, even though I do want a girl ). It really seems like he wants another, since he always asks me if I'm sure we're done. He also said he doesn't want me to be overwhelmed.
I just figured I'd do my homework and see if it was possible to lean things in the direction of a girl (my aunt swears it's why she has 2 girls )

| | Stacy, I agree with everyone else about being 100% sure you want another baby.
There are a couple things you can do to increase your chances of having a girl actually. X chromosome (girl) bearing sperm are larger, heavier, live longer, and move slower than y chromosome (boy) bearing sperm. If you see a specialist, a lot of times, what they do is put the sperm in a centrifuge which allows the x chromosome bearing sperm to seperate from the y chromosome bearing sperm since they have different densities. Boys will be on top and girls will be on the bottom. Then they simply take the section of sperm they're most interested in. You can also use this to your advantage for when you participate in the acts of making a baby. lol If you do so maybe 3 days before you ovulate, that should give the y chromosome bearing sperm more of a chance to die off and increase your chances of having a baby girl. (As somewhat of an indicator, when you ovulate, the discharge should be slippery and stringy in comparison to after you ovulate when it should be thicker and more pasty when it becomes more acidic to sperm.) I would recommend figuring out the details of your cycle before trying this though. None of this will for sure provide you with a girl or a boy but it should help increase your chances.

Stacy, I agree with the above posts - don't get your heart set on a girl, because even if you figure out when you ovulate and wait to have sex to kill the boy sperm, you eat chocolate (another wives' tale), and your hubby wears socks, it could still be a boy.
On the bright side, you do make beautiful boys, and you already know you can handle boys .
