bittersweet...

after 13 years, 11 months and 2 weeks, i'm finally done with the whole pregnancy and nursing part of my life.

i got pregnant in early March of 1997 with the first of my six daughters, nursed her for over 2 years, tandem nursed with #2, tandem nursed her with #3, etc. all the way to #6. i nursed throughout my pregnancies or very well into them at the least...it's been nearly 14 years without a single day of not either being pregnant and/or nursing.

baby E weaned herself three nights ago.

i'm happy, sad, full of joy and full of missing it all at the same time.

i'm just so happy to have been able to do what i've done, and now we move on...

just had to share...

Awwwhhh Shireen

I miss nursing so much sometimes. I know there are some women who don't think back on it once they are done (or don't understand at all since they didn't breastfeed), but it is such a sad feeling sometimes.

But what a great job you did with all of them!!

thanks guys.

we're all such amazing mommies. we all have our own paths and ways of bonding with and loving our babies. i was blessed to have breastfeeding come very easily for me, and i thoroughly enjoyed it. i'm very certain that mothers who couldn't/chose not to breastfeed also feel the same kind of pangs in their hearts when their babies no longer rely on them to be fed (no matter the method). babies gazing into mommy's eyes, the snuggling time, alone time with mommy and baby...it's so special no matter how you look at it. it's a feeling none of us will ever forget, and we'd all love to savor it somehow.

it's so much about their babies growing up and us mommies realizing we have to let them grow up...i'm watching my oldest daughter become a young lady and it makes me well up in tears thinking she was that little beanpole that fit in my forearm and nuzzled her little head on my neck. they're all growing up so fast...

it's time for the next chapter, and hopefully i'll enjoy it just as much as i enjoyed the first one.

cat i know how you feel, and i'm here for you always.

Shi - you seem like such an amazing mommy! Your girls are lucky to have such a wonderful pretty & stylish mommy!

It's sad to my baby that I JUST had be two months tomorrow, I can't imagine when she gets to be 13 then 16 and so on. It's hard enough to see my 'baby' boy be 4 & so independent when it was just yesterday he wanted 'mommy cuddles' which comes rarely these days.

Shi, I loved nursing my babies, but I can't imagine doing it for 14 years! I understand what you mean about it being bittersweet though.

Shi, you are one amazing mother and woman. Make that SUPER woman. I don't know how you do it all, hats off to you!

I can absolutely relate to that feeling when you stop nursing. I felt empty and like I had no purpose anymore (which could not be further from the truth).

Think about all the amazing moments that are ahead - you girls will graduate highschool, one by one, then college, then they will find jobs, and they will get married, and they will have their own children, and they WILL need their amazing mommy every step of the way, to guide them, and love them every single day. This is just the beginning...

....and you will be doing it all being that un-freakin'-believable size 23, 35" inseam gorgeous green-eyed woman!!!!!!!

Talk about a tall drink of water.

Ahh Shireen

I'm feeling very restless and antsy to wean my 18 month old who is showing no signs of being wean-able. Thank you for this post - it reminds me of how short this time really is and that I should appreciate each stage of my little guy's life and not rush him.
