Spin Off: Must-Haves for Moms-to-Be AND New Mommies <3

let's all try and list one or two things so everyone has a chance.

mom-to-be: bella band
new mom: peri bottle from hospital...especially if you had a vaginal birth and tore/episiotomy. take that sucker home with you; you paid for it!

GO!

Mmm! Totally agree with the bella band.

to-be : preggy pops fruit drops for morning sickness
new-mom: (also agree with the bottle!! ) Spearmint eucalyptus pillow spray! Stretchy, non underwire sleep/lounge bra.

some things are going to be a cross-over from baby's needs. i can think of one that you use quite often.

Mom to be: a pee bucket beside your bed so you don't have to get up for the zillionth time in 1 night and walk to the bathroom... Ok, I kid, I kid (sort of!!) A super comfy go to outfit for those days that you dislike how everything else looks on you.

New Mom: a girdle....helps to push your belly back a bit and sort of keeps everything in place after baby.

Mom-to-be:
  • Palmers Stretch Mark Cream FTW! I slathered that stuff all over my whole body every day I got stretch marks all over my hips and tush during adolesence (), but not during pregnancy
New Mom-
  • Palmers Stretch Mark Cream I didn't stop using it til I got back down to pre-baby weight again I wasn't risking it
  • Girdle that your Momma wears
  • Yoga Pants and a 2nd trimester maternity top to wear home from the hospital I brought TR Grey/Black rainbows, top mentioned and a VS Sweatsuit...just in case. Put on girdle, put on RBs, took off RBs, put on sweatpants Your who-ha with thank you
  • Annie's Nursing Gowns if you plan on nursing. they are pretty pricy for a night gown but worth every penny IMO. I bought 1 and then bought 2 more, they were that great!

I'm sure I'll come back with more

Moms-to-be:
Palmers Cocoa Oil Spray...I used this every day twice a day, it was much easier for me to spritz and rub in that try to contort my body enough to rub down everywhere...LOL

Alex - LOL @ pee bucket. I could have used one of those as well as a fork lift!! I got stuck on my back as I attempted to roll over one night. Drew got a BIG laugh out of me that night.

Fork lift - cuz sometimes a mama's got to roll over. LOL

New moms:

for someone planning to breastfeed: a good double electric pump. It'll cost a pretty penny, but your bubs will thank you.

Jen - totally agree with the sweatpants. I only packed PJs and sweatpants in my hospital bag because I knew from hearing of others' experiences that I would not want to be wearing anything rough on bottom for a while.

a nightlight/a monitor with a nightlight. - we have a Graco digital monitor that has a remote nightlight feature so the room can be dark when no one is awake and on either low or high when I go in to nurse him or coax him back to sleep. AWESOME

This is great! I already added Bella Band, new cocoa butter stuff but where do you get the preggy pops, Stacy? I'm craving candy lately so those sound great.

Mom-To-Be: Boppy pillow for sleeping comfort

New Mom: Lots of coffee (if you're not breastfeeding), I also lived in my Juicy Couture velour pants, so comfy

you can buy preggie pops at most maternity stores (motherhood, etc.) or at Target.

^^ I've also seen them at Babies R Us, right by the checkout

For the other moms-to-be, in addition to my bella band (which has been a lifesaver), I also loved the Gap PureBody maternity tank (this one here: Shop clothes for women, men, maternity, baby, and kids | Gap). For some reason, it shows $19.50 online, but I got it for $14.50 in-store. They are the softest tanks in the world and I own multiples in black and gray. They are LONG, and cover up the tops of my pants/jeans nicely (for when I don't use the Bella Band and just an elastic to keep my pants on). The ruching on the side is also super nice and conforms perfectly to your belly. I love these!!! I wear one every day underneath my shirts. They are truly amazing

For my belly, I've been using Mama Bee belly balm by Burt's Bees. It's kind of a pain to put on, because it's a balm and not a lotion or a cream, but it keeps my belly itch-free and soft and at over eight months prego, I have yet to see a stretch mark (though that may be mostly due to genetics, but I'm going to attribute some of it to the belly balm )

No advice yet for new moms, but maybe in a few weeks

I'm going to try those tanks! I live in tanks, and since I'm having a summer baby they'll be perfect!

So I just went to Babies R Us lol and picked up the Palmer's Tummy Butter. I used this during my first pregnancy, and I didn't get any stretch marks. I found the pops too!

They didn't have any Bella Bands Any other stores that carry them? I would be a size 1 right?

Thanks for the great info mamas! It feels like it's my first time again for some reason

Looks like you and I are the same pre-prego size, and I have my Bella Bands in a size 1

I ordered mine online for diapers.com (i took advantage of coupon codes and free shipping), but I've also seen them at some pregnancy "boutiques." Haven't seen them in any mainstream stores, but it's good to know that Nordies has them! One of my BFFs is pregnant and I am sending her a "pregnancy survival kit" and want to include a Bella Band in it

pregnant:
-support hose &/or stools in every room to put your feet up
-detailed knowledge of all public washrooms

post-natally
-huge amounts of giamongous diaper-like pads to catch liver-like vaginal spewings - and yes, I did thieve these as well as the spray bottle from the hospital(sorry- a bit graphic, I know, but I think Terrance is safe from reading this thread)
-hemorrhoid cream

you paid for those pads, net underwear, and peri bottles, syringe bulbs, etc. so don't feel the least bit guilty for taking them from the hospital.

I nabbed it all. I also packed a small-ish duffel in my hospital bag and stocked up on diapers and wipes while at the hospital. They'd always bring a fresh pack when they would bring him back in from the nursery.

I never use pads, I have used tampons in my youth, and I am a Diva cup user now, so I am not very familiar with pads.

While I was reading the must-buy lists before having my kid, I saw all lists has sanitary pads, so I bought some: the extra thin feather-like pads. My friend ( a mom of 4) almost peed herself laughing when she saw them in my hospital bag.

Can you imagine catching that 2-days-post-baby stuff with the extra thin pads??

Roxana, what did you use immediately after delivery?

Immediately after - the bathroom-mat-sized pads they gave me at the hospital

The next six weeks until the doctor OK-ed the Diva cup - maxi pads that my husband bought at Kroger - that was a funny experience in itself (for me) - he probably called me 15 times while he was there choosing pads.

I just was not familiar with them so I really could not give very good instructions other than "buy the biggest damn pads you find"!
