Best Premium Denim for Maternity

Hi there!

I'm running a story on my blog about the best premium maternity denim to buy. Many ladies I talk to buy Old Navy jeans, but I'm wondering about the women who have bought premium denim...

Why did you invest in premium denim?

What brand and style did you buy?

Would you recommend premium denim to other pregnant ladies?

I bought a pair of Old Navy maternity jeans b/c they were on the sale rack and set me back a whopping $5. I HATED them. they ran huge (I am tts 28 and they were a 2 and too big, so anyone smaller than me would have no chance of finding ones that fit them there) and stretched out even more when I wore them. That was my one maternity jeans purchase - for the rest of the time, I wore my regular jeans with waistband extenders or one size up in brands like William Rast or True Religion that are known to have pairs with larger/lower waistbands. IMO maternity jeans are a waste of $ and you can never get the right fit with them.

I had a few pairs of Paige maternity jeans and LOVED them I had two pairs with the panel and one pair with the adjustable waist. I wore the adjustable pair for a long time, while I was still in the in-between, "Is she getting chunky or is she pregnant?" stage, then I found the panels more comfy. They were WAY better than the crap I had from Motherhood maternity when I was pregnant with my son (and hadn't found PD yet).

I looked into premium denim maternity jeans, but found them too expensive (even on eBay) for the short period that I'd be wearing them. I am almost 7 months along now and still wear my regular jeans with an elastic band and a BellaBand. That's worked for me for the most part. But, it depends on how you "grow." The pregnancy gods have been good to me, and I'm all belly -- my hips and butt have stayed the same and that's how I still manage to get my jeans on. However, from the few pairs that I've tried on, the ones I liked most were Paige and Citizens.

lol i'm a perfect example of someone whose figure changed dramatically during pregnancy. i'm 5'5" and weigh about 90 lbs outside of pregnancy; i wear a 23 when available in most brands. during pregnancy i was bursting out of a 29.

i gain upwards of 50 pounds during pregnancy...having been pregnant six times (yes, i have six daughters) my body takes on a life of its own. Premium denim was the ONLY option for me. Old Navy jeans fit horribly, as did all the mainstream maternity mall-brand jeans (ie, Motherhood, etc).

i loved my SFAM and Paige. I didn't find any TR at the time, but i have a feeling i would have loved them too. i squeaked by with the bella band and my regular jeans for a while, but 50 pounds? yeah, wasn't going to make it all the way through.

i bought maternity jeans that were maternity from the factory, not self-made ones. maternity jeans are cut differently and accommodate all the extra baggage that comes with a 6-size jump and a huge belly. i wore them from four months on and i definitely got my money's worth.

Although I am mainly belly, there was no way I was fitting into regular jeans after month five. I have purchased Sevens and Citizens, and even though I'm getting the actual maternity line (vs altered) they are cut too slim in the hips for me. Paiges were perfect in fit, but had such a scrawny belly band that was worthless over my big belly and just helped in having my jeans fall down.

So honestly? My favorite jeans are indeed from Old Navy - their Bella flare. I've been stalking eBay for a pair of Paiges with a higher waistband. Until they show up, I will be going non designer because it's the only thing that works or me.
