The DH and I have been trying to get pregnant for the past couple months. I am scheduled to have my routine yearly gyno exam and the dr. always does normal physical check up stuff too. They have me come in for blood work a couple days before my scheduled exam. I was wondering if anyone knew how early blood tests in a dr. office could detect pregnancy hormones. I have not missed a period but it will not be due for a day or 2 after my gyno exam. I have been trying to track ovulation and all that and the DH and I have been on the days I am supposed to be ovulating. Ovulation days are about a week and a couple days before I am scheduled to get the blood work......

Anyway....I guess I am just asking if since I already am getting regular blood work if it would be too early or hopeful to ask for them to check for pregnancy too??

I don't think it shows up in blood tests until impantation has occured. That usually happens 7-10 days after ovulation.

this is correct. the body has to recognize the pregnancy (implantation sets off the hormones) before the level of hcg is detectable in you blood. since you'll be so close to your expected period date, they may be able to pick it up on a blood test (sometimes even with a HPT).
