How long for a bowel movement??

I would think I could remember this stuff......

It's been almost 3 days since Sloane has had a BM. Lots of gas and lots of pee pee diapers and eating like a little piggy......

I had to give her a sliver of a suppository 3 days ago just so she could have her BM then.

I have done the warm baths and moving her legs around. Her abdomen doesn't feel tight like a drum but its not exactly soft and squishy either. She is breastfed but has to have neosure (4ounces a day) along with multi vitamins and iron.

I have read this could be normal.............. but I would appreciate the input of the AF Mommies too

the iron could have something to do with it. it certainly doesn't help in that department. sometimes mine would go a week without a BM (she's breastfed).

Fletcher goes 3-5 days without a BM. It drives me batty, I always worry. He's also only BF'ing still. Sometimes I eat chocolate and it seems to help him go the next day

yep, up to a week is normal for BF babies.
agree with cat about the iron, but as long as she seems comfortable and she's not straining trying to poo, she's probably ok.

sorry to piggyback your question, but if breastfed and taking in some solids (by this I mean pretty minimal...he gums stuff but I'm not certain he is actually ingesting very much) how long is too long to not have a BM? Should I consider him strictly breastfed and consider a week normal since he really isn't eating much in the solids department or what? So confused. Thanks in advance.

I have heard a week would be too long... I called the NICU and talked to some of the nurses about this and they say one whole week
