immunizations and a rash

Fletcher had his 6 months immunizations yesterday. When I bathed him this a.m. I took off the bandaids, and he has been bothered by it all day. There seems to be a bit of a rash in the area the bandaids were covering. The shot location just looks red...but were the sticky bandaid parts were, he's got some bumps. Could he be having a reaction to the vaccines or a reaction to the bandaids? Has anyone else ever had this happen to the little ones? He keeps trying to scratch his leg, I know it is bothering him...more so one side that the other. What can I do to help him?

hmmm, sounds like the bandaids were bothering him. if the area surrounding the shot site isn't swollen (just a bit red where the needle went in is normal), then i bet it's not a reaction to the immunization. most bandaids no longer contain latex, but some people bet irritated by the glue itself.

which immunizations did he get?

Yup, my top suspect would be the adhesive as well

Yeah, my LO can't wear a band-aid for more than a couple of hours without developing an irritation. I wonder if some benedryl cream may help the itching? (Call your Dr first about this though)

I try to take the bandage off after a few hours, in order to avoid that

Thank you, Ladies. He seems better today and it looks like the rash is healing now. I always get so freaked out with his skin because of the LCH.

Shi, the site of the shot itself is just a red dot...yesterday a little of the surrounding skin was red but the rash wasn't near the shot site. He got pediadrix, rota, pvc and hib.

Here is a pic, you can almost see the outline of the bandaid:

He isn't trying to scratch at it this a.m. thankfully...but it was a long night

oh yeah, that's definitely from the bandaid. a rash/reaction from the shot would not be so localized. i hope it heals soon; try some Aveeno lotion or even Calamine lotion.

LOL Linda...I thought you might like his name He IS wearing those denim huggies. They are quite as detailed as the advertisements make them out to be. We'll probably stick to the regular white huggies after this package runs out.

Thank you Shi. I know I am extra paranoid. It looks even better tonight and doesn't seem to be bugging him at all now, thankfully.

The denim huggies are so cute They didn't have those when mine were still in diapers or I would have got them.

We are mothers and we have the right to be extra paranoid no matter what the circumstance is. Mine aren't as little anymore but I remember calling our doctor countless times for whatever reason. Glad he is doing better now
