situs inversus?

a good friend of mine is pregnant with her first, a girl, and she had an ultrasound a couple days ago that suggested that her little girl may have this condition (heart is on the right side as opposed to the left). Does anyone have any useful information on this condition that they can share? or perhaps know someone who has experienced this. I'm hoping to gather some good information and get back to her with it so that she doesn't make the mistake of googling and getting more scared than necessary.

She is scheduled to go in to the hospital to meet with a cardiologist next week. Any info would be much appreciated!

yeah, it rarely causes any issues. a low percentage may have other underlying conditions, but usually not.

Hi, I am a radiology and nuclear medicine technologist and some people have situs inversus and don't even know it until they get an X-ray.Of course now with all the pre-natal sonograms that isn't likely anymore. You can have it of just the heart or all the organs, liver on left, stomach on right. Does not cause problems usually as has been said here. It is pretty rare and is definitely an interesting "find" when you are doing an exam. Just a weird anomaly.
No big worries though, good luck!
