All about post-nursing boobies!!!

Tell me more:
How long did you nurse?
Did yours shrink?
How long after you stopped nursing did they take to shrink?
Did you wean gradually?

So far mine have not really shrunk, just a little bit. Mine weren't that much bigger than pre-preg once I was nursing more than 6 months. I am really hoping to keep what they are now. I have not nursed in 2 weeks. Before I stopped completely I was only nursing her once a day. Tell me your experiences!

Before the first kid, 36AA They stayed that size the entire pg, only growing when my milk came in, up to a 38 or 40B They gradually dropped back down to a 36A, which is where I stayed until I got pg with #2. Now, I never lost all the weight between the first two, I stayed about 10-15 pounds up, so that may be why I stayed a bit bigger. Through pg #2, I went up to a 38C. After, back to 36B or so. Gradually started shrinking again, and now that I'm more or less back to my pre-pg weight, back down to a 36AA Blah, it sucks! And they are so saggy, I never thought they could be so small, yet so droopy
Sorry forgot the rest of the questions I BF both until around 13 months, and we had gradually weaned. With both, by the time we stopped completely, we were down to one, sometimes two nursing session per day (usually in the morning, in an effort to get more sleep, and before they went to bed).

well, i've never fully weaned, but i can tell you some info:

Tell me more:
How long did you nurse?
i nursed all of them for two years, and will do so with emaan

Did yours shrink?
yes, mine shrank despite still nursing

How long after you stopped nursing did they take to shrink?
see above; i'll let you know in about 8-9 months when emaan is done, but they're shrinking a lot already

Did you wean gradually?
yes

oh, and i've always been on the smaller side; i was a 30A before any children, have expanded to a massive 36E, and gone back to a 30AA (with some room, lol)...so i'm smaller now, still nursing, than i was before children...boobwise.

Tell me more:
How long did you nurse?
First 7 mo, Second 6 mo

Did yours shrink?
yes a bit

How long after you stopped nursing did they take to shrink?
a few weeks maybe?

Did you wean gradually?
over the course of a week or two

*I'm small to start too. 32/34 A...then during preg/nursing 36C. After BF, went down to 34A again...biggest difference is the lack of fullness & elasticity. BF is a huge reason I'm so glad to be small! It wasn't a big change after weaning. I'm interested to see what they will do after this one.

i just want to clarify one more time:

breastfeeding IS NOT responsible for the changes to your breasts after weaning. pregnancy itself is, due to hormonal changes.

i don't want this thread to make people scared to breastfeed because someone told them that "breastfeeding ruins breasts", because it is not true.

i bet everyone here knows of the woman who didn't breastfeed and still has perky boobs...well, either she's the rare exception with really good genes, or she had some help.

that's all

Oh I knew that!!! You just don't see the results untill after you wean... I wonder if I am done deflating after 2 weeks? That's all. They really don't look much different than before. They're still a tad bigger, but my nipples look funny.

Yeah, it is important for people to know that what happens to your boobs is due to pregnancy. Same thing is going to happen whether or not you breastfeed. Even so, it is the best food for baby that nature intended and if possible the opportunity should not be missed. I am so pro breastfeeding it's ridiculous. I talk to anyone who will listen and some who just pretend to listen. Anyway, boobie talk resumes; who else?

3 months. I wanted to BF for a year but my son had medical issues that made it very hard and we chose to relieve his issues and had to stop.

Did yours shrink?
Not really they are a bit saggier. I was a 38C-D before and am pretty much a 38C now.

How long after you stopped nursing did they take to shrink?
Can't really remember. IT was very subtle. Plus my weight has swing up and down in the 2.5 years since I had him.

Did you wean gradually?
Nope, unfortunately it was a very abrupt and painful end.

I breastfed Abram for about 3 months. I didn't notice that much change in my boobs....in fact I still have a killer rack. I am sorry. I had to.

Me too! At work (NICU) it is my job to help mom's and I love it! I am so shocked when moms have their babies in the NICU for days or weeks and NO ONE (other nurses at other hospitals cause we are a transport center) has even brought up pumping to them! Especially for sick babies BM is so important.

I have plans to "reorganize" my boobies when I am done with this baby making business. Although with all the amazing stretch marks I don't know if I could even get implants. Wouldn't I get stretch marks from that?

Anyways I am pro-education and then leaving it up to the mother. Sometimes the pressure to bf can be too immense. I have a friend who cried and cried because she hated it so much and was having so many problems. She felt like a bad mother for stopping but at some point her mental health was being harmed. KWIM?

i agree with you Jasmin. the problem, however, is that the vast majority of breastfeeding challenges can be solved, given proper support and resources. we live in a very on-the-go society, and in a time when although there are resources available, most insurance companies won't cover the cost of a lactation consultant (even board-certified ones)...most couples can't afford the hourly rates (often takes several visits), so they either suffer through it or give up.

i am very pro-breastfeeding, but i wouldn't judge another's choice to not breastfeed in a million years. over-zealousness kills the message.

my boobs look even smaller today than they did yesterday.

not really, but getting back on topic.

I know you would never judge! I was just sharing an example. I totally agree about the lack of support in most places. It is sad.

So here is a boob related question: Will my nipples go back to the size they were before?

yeah, my nipples are back to light tan instead of the fushia color while I was nursing. Jesus, I forgot to notice that!

How long did you nurse?
Just about 15 months. I'm weaning right now. I need my boobies to be mine again!

Did yours shrink?
I started at a 32D, went up to a 34F (!) when my milk came in and they settled down to a 34D/32DD while nursing...and that's where I'm at right now. I do feel like they are getting smaller though.

How long after you stopped nursing did they take to shrink?
Still in the process.

Did you wean gradually?
Yes. When I went back to work, I pumped 3 times a day then 2X and now I'm done to 1X. I'll probably stop altogether in the next week or two.

Did yours shrink? I was a D before I got preg with my oldest, after nursing him I was barely a B. After nursing the baby I dropped to an A
How long after you stopped nursing did they take to shrink? A few weeks
Did you wean gradually? First was cold turkey (he was a fierce biter), and the 2nd one I weaned down to one feeding first.

Yep. I didn't breastfeed my daughter and the girls certainly weren't the same after being pregnant.

How long did you nurse? So far 6+ months and plan on going until 1 year.
Did yours shrink? Not yet, they went from 34b to a 36D and haven't gone down at all yet.
How long after you stopped nursing did they take to shrink? n/a
Did you wean gradually? It is my plan to gradually wean. My little man is a boobie man and I'm sure he'd freak out if I just took them away.

OK, here's an update since you are all obviously dying to hear about my boobs... They stayed bigger than pre pregnancy and it has been 5 weeks since I stopped nursing. Pretty sure I get to keep them. I feel so lucky to be one of the few women who ends up with better boobs post nursing

I must be the exception...I had inverted nipples before babies and after babies they have exploded into Super Nipple (capitalized cause they deserve their own identity)! However after nursing the boys back to back the areolas went back to normal!

Oh and funny story...I am not a modest person when at home or around CLOSE friends, mainly regarding nursing. But people that come to my home know that. Anyhnow my best friend (who was a "leg holder" in Melayna's birth) just commented 2 nights ago (Melayna's almost 6 mo.) that I have the HUGEST areolas she has ever seen! <---- her face (and she has seen them quite a bit) I laughed as they are! I explained how our bodies make them like dark giant targets for our babies! She said "No wonder Melayna is a pro nurser, she can't miss those!"

Me too! I have been a 36C to a 36D my whole life, and am now a 36DD. My poor girls get lifted and nicely folded into a bra when I am not a nursing momma, they are deflated balloons!

And I have to say that even if it meant I had to chop my boobs off I would nurse! It is SO incredibly worth all the hard work! And new mommies...it is hard work! So don't be sad when it is frusterating! Just know its okay and always ASK FOR HELP!!!
