Baby Clothing

So I am not used to the baby stuff world especially clothing. Is the pricey baby clothing worth it? Does it last longer? Do I need it to last longer? One brand I have heard awesome things about is Hanna Andersson? I guess I am wondering if I should be scouting ebay for deals. Also any tips of brands for cloth diapers or types would also be great, Thanks!!

In terms of baby clothing, it's your call. If you think you will have more babies in the near future, it's not weird to spend a little more. However, there is no guarantee you will have the same gender baby anyway, so there you have it.

If it's going to be a while between babies, don't fool yourself into thinking you will reuse everything. Styles change, and you'll probably find yourself buying new anyway.

Bottom line, buy a few nice things, but don't waste your money on an entire designer wardrobe. Newborns in particular are most comfy in simple cotton blends anyway. Hannah Andersson's clothing is very well-made; you won't be disappointed with money spent on a few things.

IMO.

Thank you! That is exactly the type of advice I was looking for! My SIL bought me a cute hanna andersson pj from a garage sale and it is in amazing shape. Apparently it has gone through three kids and that is impressive. Are there any places you can buy the HA stuff cheaper? I looked on ebay and it was good, but does TJ Maxx carry it or Ross? I think I am going to buy a few cute high quality pieces like overalls and pjs and a few sweaters that can be for a boy or girl. And the rest can come from anywhere!

^ I haven't come across HA stuff at TJ Maxx, and we don't have Ross in our area. My TJ Maxx sucks though; the one that may carry it (if they do at all) is about 45 minutes away.

One thing that amazed me is I have a Gymboree outfit that ALL SIX girls wore; it was a layette set (hat, bib, shoes, one-piece outfit and blanket). If you saw it today, it still looks practically unworn.

My girls are all 2 years apart and less; I still bought all kinds of new stuff for each one.

I agree with Shi. Even if you do have the same gender it may be a different season. The smaller the size, the shorter amount of time they spend in it!! Both my sons were in 0-3 for about a month, 3-6 for a few, 6-12 for maybe 1/2 a year...etc...Size 2 is when they started to wear things well. Also...baby poop and spit up stains like CRAZY I invested in gap mostly because its cute, comfy and at Mom-to-Mom sales they sell better then your average stuff. Once they got older (3) I invested in some cute 7FAM pants and a few higher end stuff but Gap is still a biggy in my house

If I have a girl...I think I wil be in trouble though too many cute girl things...so hard to resist temptation!!!

I have been quite please with all of the jammies and cotton outfits from Carter's, tops and bottoms from Old Navy and tops from Target (the snaps on the pants suck so I steer clear). I am someone who prefers variety over quality for baby/toddler clothes though since they wear them for such a short period of time.

My 2nd son is due exactly 2 years and 1 day after my first son so #2 *should* be able to wear a lot/most of Spencer's clothes. I have already unpacked, washed and hung up all os Spencer's Preemie, newborn and 3-6 month clothes and I am quite please with how well all of the Carter's, Target and Old Navy stuff has held up.

I have bought a few "botique" type itmes for special occasions, but personally, I don't feel that the cuteness warrented the price tag if you know what I mean. I think that its a personal decission...if you have plenty of disposable income, go nuts by all means! I just couln't justify "fancy" baby clothes with me not working...but then again, I'm a sell a pair to buy a pair kind of jeans gal so take my opinion for what its worth

I buy mostly Carter's, Gap, Old Navy, Gymboree and Childrens Place clothing for my kids. They have really cute outfits that hold up well and don't cost a fortune, especially if you buy stuff on sale. I am however still on the hunt for a pair of TR for my little man.

Everyone needs a pair of TR. You can't argue with quality.

Mmhmm, I agree with jillybean on brands that I love (carters/gap/oldnavy/gymboree/childrensplace). I also love hurley jeans for my boys (although they're cut too fat for my oldest, he's so skinny ), and quiksilver/other skate brands. But when they're really young, they outgrow everything so fast its not worth (for me) buying expensive stuff. I always scout eBay and second hand baby shops for good stuff We have a bunch of "other mothers" stores in the area that are consignment baby stuff shops. I'm sure there are a bunch of the same thing in your area.

ETA: Even though I have 2 boys, they grew completely differently, and were born 6 months apart (in season. march/sept) so a lot of hand-me-downs don't fit when the weather is right for them. And I love shopping, so of course I had to buy new clothes for him, even though he had ones that would work . I wanted my oldest son to look "tough" when he was a baby (of course I was completely gothic back then), but I want my baby to stay "the baby" for a longer time, so I'm still dressing him in cutesie rompers, even though he's 1 1/2.

I buy ALL of my kids clothing at consignment sales, yard sales and thrift stores. And I buy pretty much all gap, children's place, gymboree. I've even found kids R&R, 7FOM and Hannah Anderson at thrift stores! HA is great quality clothing, but i doubt you will find it at ross and such, they only have a few stores and mainly sell out of their catalog. The only thing I will pay full price for are shoes from striderite... If you don't know about kids consignment sales and such, check out your local MOPS (mothers of pre-schoolers) group. There's also a national chain store called kid-to-kid that buys and sells kids clothes and equipment! Carter's also has several outlet stores and they do some great sales through out the year. You can buy great kids clothes for really cheap if you know where to look! Good Luck!!

This is exactly what I was going to say dojoqueen!! I went a little crazy in the beginning because it was my first baby. But I found that he wore things maybe twice and then he outgrew it!!!

I bought many nice, more expensive things but it was for special occasions.

My son lived in the carters wrap around t shirts that snapped on the side. He wore this under his clothing. I love them!!!
