Maybe it does mean something *update and Q*

I went to my doc appointment and I have made no progress in 2 weeks. I am still not even 1 cm dilated and the baby's head has not engaged at all (still at -4 station for those who know). Still only 50% effaced. I was really hoping that she would tell me I was dilated The doctor told me that since this is my first baby and she hasn't even dropped yet to not even consider that she will come before my due date. I just want to have her already...

Sorry Liz... she must be comfortable in there! What did your doc say about the plug coming away?

WOW! ! I can't believe how close you are to meeting your little girl. I remember like it was yesterday reading that you found out you were pregnant.

Sorry I dont have much to add because I've never experienced any of this but I hope the time will go fast and your baby girl will be here soon.

Liz, doctors cannot predict when you will have your baby...ever. If you remember, I NEVER had signs of labor...ever. With my first, I was at the doctor's office at 1 p.m. on November 21st; I was NOT dilated, I was barely effaced. The only difference is that my baby had dropped (BUT I was nearly 40 weeks, not 38). I went into labor at 5:30 a.m. the next morning and had my first at 6:57 a.m.

My doctor was convinced I had while before I would go into labor also. You can go from nothing to everything, or already be 4 cm and not labor for weeks. Babies can drop in one day, so your -4 station also doesn't mean much yet. Try and stay positive, and know that your beautiful daughter will come when she's ready.

^ Third the thumbs up. After 12 hours of pitocin induced contractions and 2 shots of Fentanyl, that epidural was such a relief.

Epidural is my new best friend, highly HIGHLY recommended! And don't let them turn it down/off either!

Loosing the cervical plug is a sign of effacement. Just remember that 50% is half way there, you can't reach 100% without dilating to 10! Often, with a first pregnancy, you will not dilate very much before you go into labor. Hang in there, your body is preparing.

It is so hard to predict when a baby will come, no matter how dilated or effaced you are.
With my first pregnancy, my water broke at 36 weeks and it took me 12 hours to go into real labor. With my second child I expected labor every day past 36 weeks, I almost made it to term.

With my fifth pregnancy I walked around at 4-5 cm and 80% effaced for a week! At that check up (38 weeks) my doctor said she'd see me in the hospital in no more then a couple days. At my 39 week check up, 5 + dilated, she asked me if I'd like to go to the hospital for an induction or deliver in the car on the way to the hospital.

Things that are on your side...full moon and change in barametric pressure. Honest, I used to work L&D and dreaded the full moon or a big storm!

*Don't read if you get grossed out* So I lost the plug yesterday morning and then a little more in the afternoon after my appointment. Last night I had some contractions accompanied by period like cramping my my lower abdomen. I got up to pee several times and have been having pink discharge some of it mucous some just watery all morning. I am going to call my doctor's office when they open... but does anyone know what this is??

Sometimes after a doctor's visit that happens because they were poking around. It is pretty common.

I have had 3 of these exams and yes that has happened before, but it was right after the visit and then went away. This happened in the middle of the night and all this morning, hasn't been this much before and it looks different.

I hate to sound dumb but are you sure it's pee? When my water broke it was a trickle so at first I thought it was pee but then felt like I had to go again and then realized it wasn't pee. Is it cloudy-ish?

I haven't really checked out my pee, I just keep seeing the pink stuff. I haven't really leaked anything, I don't think...

Is the cramping coming and going in a regular pattern? My first pregnancy they asked me if I was having contractions and I said no, just cramps like when I start my period. They laughed.

You know, if you show up at the hospital enough times, sure you are in labor, they will get sick of you and induce you. Plus they may check you again, therefore irritating your cervix some more.

The cramping accompanied by discharge is a good sign. Any urges to clean the house?

I'd tell you how to check yourself and stretch your cervix, but it would probably freak you out and a sterile glove would be a good idea. Can't imagine anyone doing that.

don't check your own cervix.

anyway, it sounds like pre-labor may be happening; good news is that real labor often follows it...the bad news is that pre-labor can go on for quite a while.

When your contractions are 5 minutes or less apart for more than an hour and you can barely speak through them, it's time to head to the hospital. Contractions, when they are real labor ones, will get worse when you move around, won't back off no matter what you do.

Go for a long walk; see if that keeps the contractions coming. I hope this is it for you...or if not, soon!

I talked the nurse and she told me to watch for actual blood clots, that this pink stuff can be early labor or just more mucous plug from deeper in my cervix. I am going to go for a long walk at lunch. It is hard to sit here at work wondering if I am in early labor or not. I am thinking I got excited about nothing. But I guess at least SOMETHING is happening. Something is much better than nothing. My husband is all perky and excited this morning! I guess no matter what, I am 1 week and 4 days from my due date, something has to happen relatively soon.

I'll leave the cervix checking for my doctor. I have been drinking my raspberry leaf tea everyday.

I lost my plug in the bathroom and like 5 minutes later my water broke....I was induced with pitocin so that may be why it happened so close to one another.

Did you have a colon cleansing poop yet? Are you having any contractions? I would start timing them if you do.
