Opinions on buying fakes

Hey everyone!
I'm new to the forum...I stumbled across it when I was doing a little research on buying fake Louboutins.

I've been checking out the scene at louboutinmall.com and I know these are fakes, but my question for all of you is this: do you think it's worth buying knockoffs when one can't afford the real thing? The shoes are adorable but I have no idea what the quality will be like, etc. If you have any personal experience with this, or thoughts in general, please let me know! Thanks!

I am sure no one here will advise you to buy fakes, we are against fakes and this site in meant to combat them as much as we can. So, this might not be a very smart question to do here, as the answer should be pretty obvious

that being said, i think there is a difference between “inspired” or “know off” and fakes. I have some shoes from Bakers, Steve madden and such, that are inspired in designers, i have bought them for many reasons, because i could not afford the real one at the time, because i did not love the style that much, because I thought it would be "out"too quick, etc... but I would never buy an ugly wanna be fake blatant shoe

no ... buying fakes helps support child labor, unethical & environmentally unfriendly businesses and has been linked to terrorism and other criminal activities.

If you are in a situation where you cannot afford to buy the real thing, buy something that is in your price range that is authentic. There are plenty of quality items out there at lower prices. Considering those shoes on the site are $150 - 200 for a pair of fakes, why not just save up for a few months until you can buy a real pair or for that much there are plenty of other great pairs of authentic shoes you could buy. If you are in a situation where this is not possible where you can save up some money over a few more months maybe buying a $150 pair of shoes is not in your best financial interest at this time.

For me, the biggest reason for not buying fakes is because they supports unethical activities, as treasurehoard mentioned, but putting that aside for a minute...

People who know can tell. I saw someone walking in front of my apartment building wearing fakes, and I instantly recognized them as such. I could tell in the few seconds that I saw them that the quality was just awful. Also, I've seen pictures of fakes that people have actually purchased. It's not even like LV where some of them are really good or there are really specific things to look for; the fakes are just ugly. They never get the delicate lines of the shoe correct, and compared to the real thing, they just look clumsy. I've heard from those who have purchased them that the quality is not nearly the same and they sometimes smell strongly of glue.

I think you'd be much better off buying a pair of Nine West, Steve Madden, etc. The style will be similar enough, and you will know what quality the shoes are. Or, as th mentioned, you can save up to buy a real pair. You can easily find them in the $300-400 range on ebay or even in department stores during sales, if you are diligent enough. That's the price of buying 2 pairs of fakes. Wouldn't you rather have one pair of the real thing? Think of how exciting it would be to buy a real pair, as opposed to receiving ugly, cheaply made fakes.

Buying fakes tells people that you don't really care about the design or the quality, you only care about pretending you are able to afford a name. Tacky.

If you can't afford it even at an eBay price downgrade to a cheaper bag it will show more class.

Why buy fakes when you can get the real thing from Ebay for 200-300 bucks? Mostly all my CLs are from Ebay in brand new condition (or if I'm lucky Neiman Marcus Last Call) and they're in that range but retail usually over $600.

Louboutin Mall crap are in the upwards of $150++ why do you want to pay that much for fakes? I'm sure they'll either fit weird, no support, or just painful in general. Think crappy payless shoes dressed up a little bit and sole painted red. I don't think their quality ventures far from that....

Fakes well if you want them its up to you, but you must be aware that fake things have poor quality thats why it is better to buy the authenticated ones.

The last sentence from Laureen really sums it all up perfectly.

There is so much great advice in this thread already.
You could definitely try saving up. I personally would much rather save for ten authentic top quality items then pay less for twenty fake items.
eBay is a great way to find great deals on authentic designer items. If you skim through the forums you'll see a ton of authenticity checks going on and so many find fantastic deals. You just have to keep on what you really want. The majority of what I have I have bought off eBay. You'll be surprised at some of the deals you'll find if you stay diligent.

Many people buying fakes nowadays, not many seemed too concerned about the ethics behind it. But in terms of quality, most fakes only look like the real model, but are no where near the durability and quality and will most likely wear and tear within a short period. If you think about it when you buy a $1000 dollar handbag for $100, obviously there is a catch.

If you are diligent on ebay you can find great CLs for 200-250 dollars, not too much more than those fake things they sell. They look wrong, off. Learn your stuff here and on TPF, do some research and get some real ones. The most I have paid is much less than retail for a shoe that has been worn usually once at most.
Don't wear fakes, people can tell and yes, they will laugh inside.
Thank you, Laureen!

That's one of the reason's I am so turned off when people show their collections that they are very fortunate to have, yet describe them them "humble/measly" etc, yet there are 5+ bags/designer shoes etc. It comes off as arrogant to me, despite what the intention is. People are lucky if they can buy one, well made, designer piece. And should not be ashamed to wear it everyday for 50 years. That's kind of the point. You pay for a well made quality item that is timeless/classic, and can last a lifetime.

Rant over now

A better alternative to fakes are designers who offer clothes and accessories for less but still have the same class as the more expensive ones out there.

There is definitely some very reasonably-priced, great-quality stuff out there, BUT, I assume the OP wanted a pair of Louboutins. Before I started actually buying them, I searched high and low for shoes that were of similar design and quality and honestly could not find them; all the other brands that try to copy them really don't get all the details right and I happen to be someone who cares about that kind of thing. Not everyone does, which is fine, but if you are really set on a pair of Louboutins, save up, wait for sale season, and buy the real thing.
